Ok I cant see any visibile difference between when I put the tech slider at full, or not. The percentages dont change, nor does it seems to help or hinder.
Also, why do I need to keep reselecting the techs I want every turn/phase? Am I missing something obvious?
Any general hints on tech?

Usually when you move the slider, the label of the tech is updated, as well as the text on the right-hand side of the window (in bold).

This is a WAD that is felt like a bug indeed!
Your technology check attempt
failed and the tech research has
stopped,
so forcing you to select again the tech...
But I realise this is annoying! Sorry...
I will go to change the behaviour as follows: if the tech research attempt fails, you have
no progress and you have
not to select again the tech for research.
Going to fix it in 1.0.4 patch.
Thanks for your patience,
Calvinus.

We are patient because we all felt that this game could rock after some improvements.
Don't worry and go back to work

ok thanks! If I move the slider I see the bold number go up, say I move it all the way it goes to 30 (of 40). Is 30 what my country is contributing of the alliance and 40 is the alliance max? Sorry if that is worded poorly.

Yes, it's so. There you set the "contribution" to the alliance-level tech. investment total.

I've always wanted to ask, why do patches go 1.0.0, 1.0.1, ...1.0.4 etc., instead of v1, v2, v3, v4.
Is it because the "1" in front looks friendlier?
The Australian Government recently suggested we do not call our drought "the drought" but instead "the dryness" because it makes the farmers feel happier.
Is it the same concept with patches?

Most likely they are mini patches and that a big patch would be 1.1, 1.2 etc. A bit like AACW wherre the letter increase denotes a mini patch, and a number increase a big patch.
