What will be your starting nation ?

I thought that this could be an interesting topic for a new thread while we wait for this gem (could be even a poll, but I do not know how to create one...

leure: )
I will most certainly play initially (and probably mostly) with the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Nothing like try to fight the inevitable destiny of a decaying empire (for which, strangely, I have immense admiration). Besides, I am intrigued about playing as ally to a AI Germany. Second choices will be probably Germany and Italy
So... what do you think you will choose as starting nation ? France, Great Britain, Russia, Italy, Germany, AH empire or Ottoman empire ?

I would try Germany or France for the initial challenge (win or lose the war in 8 weeks!).....for long run heartbreaking play, Russia and Austria-Hungary are really challenging...

A-H has to be my choice aswell. As, imo the biggest loser in the war, the challenge of trying to hold together its empire, fighting on 3 fronts, russia, serbia and italy and trying to help the germans would i believe give so much quality playing time.

The choice of initial plan is fascinating.
As for me, i will try sooner the plan made by French Maréchal Franchet d'Esperey. Salonique to Belgrade and then Budapest, Vienna and ...Berlin.
They liberatated Belgrad with the Serbs, eliminated the german XI Army (80000 men )surrendered and were on the way to Budapest.
Unfortunately the genial Géneral didn't complete the maneuver because of November 11.
The defeat of the central powers in the Balkans is too often forgotten.
Actually it played a key role in the armistice asked in 1918.
And Franchet d'Esperey took command on 9 june 1918.
One of the greatest achievement of WWI.

No way! That pointy thing was absurd!
Besides, the typical Poilu light blue uniform with huge coat was cool!

A-H as that would have been my home country back then and many Slovenians (including my great grand father) fought for it, especially against Italy when they were defending the home soil against the nation that always losses battles but never wars

I want to see if the Russian steamroller can do the job quickly in 1914-15.

The Ottomans. I plan on demolishing the Allies without Enver Pasha! Just imagine if Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was in charge overall from the onset.

My father's name is Wilhelm. My middle name is Wilhelm. Makes for an easy choice.

Initially I would play the Germans to show that the old Schlieffen-Plan works.
Secondly the A-H,because my father is a so-called "Donauschwabe" from the area of Budapest and my ancestors fought for Franz-Joseph against Serbs,Russians and Italians. Then the Ottomans to fight for their right to control Mekka and Medina.
I strongly prefer the Central Powers, because they had a chance to win the war, but there were made some big mistakes at the start. The gap between two german armies at the Marne stopped their advance. That would not happen to me I think.
heartly greetings
Hohenlohe, who hopes for a gem...

I think the greatest lesson from WWI is just how far a person's last name can promote them well beyond their competency.
