Progess Report - Play by Web Portal

As development continues, Ageod is pleased to inform the community that we are confident to be able to offer a fully featured play by web portal for
Ageod's games, starting off with BoA and AACW within the coming months, most likely next Spring.
The web site will provide a free hosting service and will allow players to create and participate in multiplayer games with a few clicks. Schedule your game turns a on daily basis or have the web site host only when everyone has played their turn, view all your current games in a single screen with their status and next host time, receive mail alerts when new turns are ready, and more !
The service will be the starting point for additional tools that will fully automate the handling of game files and ease the everyday life of players involved in multiplayer games.

How will this work exactly? Are we talking a WEGO system where both players need to be online and moving at the same time? If not simultaneous play, what kind of replay or reporting will be available to see what happened on the previous turn? Thanks.

this automate the turn processing, but you are still in a simultaneous, not necessarly connected mode. You submit your turn, player B do so one hour later, and the turn is processed. Alternatively, you submit it at the same time and it is processed too... and you can have a timer to force turn generation.
This is what VLabz is doing on his website, but he has more details on the progress done so far.
As for the replay of a previous turn, this is one of the top priority of the new year, and we will add it to both our games freely as soon as the feature is done.

And you'll hopefully get plenty of info about your games on the web site, and be able to post comments in the game thread (good for roleplay as well)
We'd also like to provide tools to help you upload and download game files, and handle those files for you...

I missed this earlier- looks great!

PBEM is essential since no matter how good the AI, it can't compare to the imagination of a human opponent. Frankly this prospective system looks much better than a standard email game. When this is implemented it will prolly cause me to go back an purchase BoA since my main hesitation has been what appears to be a lack of people playing this by email (as well as the apparent difficulties of those few that are playing email).
It may be unnecessary if there is going to be a game hosting website but since I don't see many details I would suggest a (or even just a sticky) thread dedicated to email games and searching for opponents like SSG uses.
Will it be possible to play a game with more than 2 players? - say an Eastern and Western command for each side? Not an essential feature but just curious.

Oops - forget about what I said about the pbem thead - I see there already is one- but you might consider placing such a thead with each game.

Hi Flashman,
the answer is Yes. You'll be able to play 2 vs 2 games because multiple players can be assigned the same slot (or camp/side). When a player uploads its orders, the other player will be able to get this order file and complete the orders.
You don't have to wait the Play by Web portal to do so. You can today play a 2 vs 2 game in this way with BoA !
Though, there is and might not be any mechanism in the game itself to identify multiple players on one single side.
EDIT : dev is currently making progress. I'm rushing for a basic v1 version !

I know it is not important to many, but for me mulitplayer is crucial.

Based on the post by vLabz I went ahead and bought BoA. Wow, I love it

I am even trying to talk some of my online buddies into it who are normally adverse to turn based games.
Looking forward to the ACW game.

Gentlemen,
Back on March 22, this feature caught my eye and propelled me off the fence and I made the purchase (bought BoA also). Anyway, I am reluctanly making a complaint. It has been quite a while now and you really should get moving on this. The current PBEM looks so cumbersome I really don't want to make the effort to learn it and also the AI is still giving me a good battle so I haven't been in a rush, but...
I love playing against humans and this feature looks like it will be great when operational so please give it a boost in your priorities. Thanks.
and Yes I still think this is a great game.

Well, don't lay this on AGEOD, it's a one man side effort by a fan of the game, which explains the delays. And the PBEM routine really isn't too bad once you give it a go. There are a few features I'd like to see, but I know I'm going ot have to wait tiull the next version before I see them. But it's definitely still fun to play MP.

Woa there son. This definitely should be laid at Ageod's doorstep. From the first post it is stated that it is an Ageod effort. I always envisioned that it was a third party contractor who was setting this up. Now you tell me its just a "fan". Regardless, it is ultimately Ageod's responsibility based on what company representatives have stated on this thread.
Having said that I may have to break down and learn the protocol's for email already in place but this feature as described in the first post sounds wonderful and I sincerely hope it is ultimately completed. In fact I would be very disappointed in Ageod if it is not.
Like I said two posts ago- I am reluctanly making a complaint- This is an excellent game and I have been very impressed with the company so far, but I still think they need to get moving on this web play feature.

This is a freelance volunteer which is on the project. He is still willing to advance on it, and is doing just that, but yes this is slower than we expected. He told me again 10 days ago that he was working on it. We will see in fall if he need some help completing the task.

Hi guys, I'm the developer, this long delay is all my fault.
I've been slow, but I think it's worth it, you'll have a site of quality.
I'm making progress at the moment and I'm close to fulfulling the automation of a whole turn (though I'll need Pocus help for the game engine side of the processing).
The pbw portal will not only help players to automate hosting, it's also the ideal place to easily join or create a multiplayer game.
Unfortunately I'll be on holidays 2 and 1/2 weeks in august...
I'll do my best for the rest. Seeing that the pbw site is most wanted is a good source of motivation / encouragement. Thanks for that and sorry again for being slower than I said.

vLabz - this feature is DEFINITELY high on my list. I have just spent two days with another player (who is much more computer savy than I) trying to get a pbem started. Haven't got it to work yet. I knew this was not going to be easy despite reassurances from the more intelligent members of this community.
Frankly right now I am frustrated and pissed off. It shouldn't be this friggin difficult to pbem. I just want to play a game not be a computer guru! Computers are supposed to AUTOMATE things!
Several attempts latter and we finally made it into a game. While I still think the PBEM is overly complex, I am willing to concede the possiblity that I may be a moron
Since this email game will prolly take a couple of months I will shut up and patiently await the web based internet game feature. I still sounds GREAT so please do not forget about it.
vLABz- how is PORTAL come'n ?

Actually VLabz sent me a request some weeks ago to update the AGE hosting engine, so that he can continue advancing on his module, and with NCP I never found the time to code the request. So this is at least 50% my fault. I hope to be able to do somethings in october though. The PBWeb features is anyway planned after the release of our TCP/IP utility named ARES.
