So far in Gamespot there is only one
critics review and is very bad, a fan of Total War series.
I know Gamespot is not a reference for wargames, but anyway somebody should tell them that there are much better reviews available

The problem is the GameRankings page, that only references the worst review out there...
http://www.gamerankings.com/pc/986150-rise-of-prussia/index.html
From there they get the "ranking"...

I think you are not reading it right... Gamespot gets the information from GamesRanking...
Check the link that you have just posted and then click on the first review link (IGN), you will see that you are refferenced to the GR page.
68,96% is the GR ranking... 6.9 on Gamespot...

As soon they still want to compare to a Total War series game, all critics are utterly biased and not objective.
The misunderstanding comes because they think that a Total War series game is a reference in wargaming although those games are only "dust into somebody's eyes" : graphically beautiful but with a brain-dead AI...

"Final Word: Other grand strategy games like Napoleon: Total War (...) do what Rise of Prussia does, but better..."
Ok, this guy just doesn't know what he's talking about...
In french : le mec qui assimile Napo Total War et un jeu Agoed est juste incompétent sur le sujet.

Really, calling NTW an "icon" of strategy games, THE way to go for the strategy wargames genre.... makes me cry...

Agree.
Of course the reason of the thread was not to highlight the review, but the fact that is the only one listed in Gamespot, when we know that there are more available and more knowledgeable

Metacritic (a similar site to GameRankings) has exactly the same problem:

I tried playing Medieval 2 total war after I had been playing NCP, AACW and WIA, I found it a very shallow game, after the strategic depth of AGEOD games the total war series feels like kiddy's game's....
