gamealive.net: "No show, all substance" (64%)

Rise of Prussia is best described as "No show, all substance". The graphics are pretty dry and boring, but the strategic depth is huge and the the theater is refreshing.

Graphics & Sound
+ atmospheric music
+ nice 2D Map

- outdated graphics
- dry presentation
- no animated battles

Balance
+ very good AI
+ many different options

- very difficult
- tutorials are insufficient

Scope

+ seven years war is historical correct displayed
+ events

- no diplomacy
- no research, no economy

Handling
+ well-arranged menus
+ drag & drop
+ quick unit construction system
+ many informations

- sometimes hints are overlapping
- not enough information about allies and foes

Misc.
+ refreshing scenario
+ historical correct
+ great strategic depth

- steep learning curve

Just curious... can you translate the +/- that are listed at the end?
Thanks!

Of course. I edited them in to the first post. :)

Most negative comments are about grafics. I already started a discussion with the reviewer... :)

Well, although I do not agree with the reviewer... at least he gives his opinions the right away.

The review is not entirely bad; the bad score just results from the graphics section. The rest of the review is quite fair and -most importantly- he reviewed the game at all. Most German game sites just neglect games like RoP.

Exactly... and that's why I do not agree, I think the graphics fit the game quite well. You can't expect Total War graphics on a small studio game. ;)
But at least, he gaves a reason for his review...

I wrote exactly the same in the comments of the review.

Actually, he responded to my comments and wrote that he compared the graphics of RoP to games like HoI, hence the bad score.

I'm surprised about the tutorials. We tried very much to cover many things, and with simplicity.
I'm pleased with the interface comment, because everyone has his own idea about a good interface, but overall people says the interface we have is above the average :)

As for the AI, I know what you feel about it :) The good thing though is that for newcomers, it appears to be superior to many of the others games.
