Sometimes when I am selecting which troops to include in a formation the
Unit Detail panel pops up and I have to start my selection all over. This happens without me attempting to bring up this panel. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong.

You can open the unit detail panel by clicking on the NATO icon of the units counters (top right corner of teh counter).
(An if you continue clinking on the NATO icon the detail panel will cycle through all the element on the brigade/division. Very useful :thumbsup
I guess you sometimes just click over the little NATO icon on the top right corner of the counter while doing selections.
Just click on any other part of the counter for selecting and you will not have this problem

I believe that if you close the panel, your selection is still there (ESC key or right click IIRC)
