1. The War of Independence scenario: in January 1776, as the rebs, I received about 20 messages along the lines of:

"2nd New Jersey/1st Delaware/2nd Georgia/etc. was disbanded"

Did I do something stupid or is it a scripted event?

2. Same scenario: what is the level of intervention necessary for the French to join in? The tooltip says: "After a certain level has been reached". Is this mystery WAD?

3. Same scenario: how do I beat the Brits? It's early 1776 but it's looking pretty sad already. As in: they have serious armies with many units, I have militia/regular units of doubtful value. In concrete terms: I've lost Philadelphia and Baltimore, but I gained Boston. The chances of conquering Canada are very dim. From your experience with the scenario, did I play badly or are things supposed to go this bad? Be honest.

1. This is normal. Happens every winter [random check for troops going home]. Very historical. Very frustrating
It's all part of the oft-discussed 'AutoRaise' function. You'll get some of them back in the spring...

You can reduce this probability by putting units into VP locations [in their 'home' state] as at least one will be preserved at each owned location.

You have to be patient with the USA. In 1776 you shouldn't be think about wining, just concentrate on surviving! The game last until 1783 and time is on your side!
On 1776 the Brits gets several HUGE reinforcements that will make you run for your life everywhere.
Just try to keep your armies alive, ceding towns and cities when the enemy are too strong and looking for weak spots where you can take the offensive. Hopefully the brits can't be everywhere at once (at least not is sufficient strength!)
Basically, try to be a pest and to not get decisively defeated.
If you manage to keep the revolution alive for a couple of years, keeping control of some areas things will improve. The Brits forces will disperse and debilitate chasing you around and you will gain strength with new volunteers, and a core of trained continentals to make the back bone of your armies (use your training and drilling leaders to good effect! They are very important!)
... and when the French and Spanish help arrive around 1780 it will be payback time

Conquering Canada on 1775-76 should be though more like a raid than a conquest. Taking Montreal by surprise in a fast raid is double and you receive some cool Canadian volunteers , but Quebec is very hard to do and usually a deathtrap.
Beware of Quebec fortress ZOC Unless you have a high military control on an adjacent region your units may get blocked there.
Of course, as soon as Burgoyne army arrives at Canada 1776 you will have to run south for your life and leave all your conquests behind
But hey, if you keep him occupied retaking Canada he will no be advancing towards Albany... for a while...
