PBEM as the non-hosting player.

I'm appealling for assistance from you experienced PBEM gamers. A freind and I want to begin a PBEM game, French & Indian Campaign to be specific. He is hosting. I've reviewed the instructions in the manual, but I have two questions:
1) He began the game and sent me the first turn's TRN file. I opened the file, and then saved it (save as) to a file I created: WIAGame\WIA\Saves\Wilderness War. When I looked into the folder afterwards, it is indicated to be empty. But when I repeat the "save as" I get a message that the TRN file is already there and saving will replace the file. I did so. OK, that is strange. Am I missing something in the TRN save process?
2) Once I'm able to confirm that the TRN file has been saved properly, just what steps do I go through to start the very first turn of a PBEM game on my end? I though it would be to go into the "Load Game" menu, pick Wilderness War, and start it up, but at present the menu is empty. Should I be opening this as a "New Game" labelled Wilderness War on my end, or is there something else I should be doing?
I appreciate any help you can provide.
