Anybody still playing this?

Still thinking of buying this, but I'm wondering if the simplified gameplay "as opposed to AACW" can keep me playing for a good deal of time.
I've noticed that the forums seem a bit dead, and there haven't been any new aar's for a really long time...
All in all, I'm trying to probe if there is something wrong/lacking with the game (hope not) or if everyone has just taken some time off.

I find nothing wrong with this game, at least

ha, well you've never let me down before.
I played the demo for a good long time and felt that it seemed pretty good, though I still have some questions like...does the game do a good job of making the Rebs. weak, but hard to force into a fight?

I really like this game, although I can't compare it to AACW (that one is next on my list). I seem to prefer it over NCP so far, even though I am a long time Napoleonic era and miniatures/tabletop enthusiast. Not sure why, even though I don't mind that there isn't a grand campaign, maybe the campaigns seem too short.
I had started an aar on the matrix forum, but we decided to start our pbem of the F&I war over because of the auto retreat bug which has been fixed in the latest patch.
Perhaps a quiet forum is a good thing- no news is good news (no bugs or complaints?).

I certainly think there is enough game here to keep people happy for many months. I'm also surprised that the forum is so quiet but I suppose there is not that much to post about. The beta forum is a bit more active with new ideas. I'm still playing the game and currently making a fairly large scenario that covers Pontiac's war that will be available early next year (the gods permitting).
Cheers, Chris

This is a fun and engrossing game. If I and other players might not be playing it too much currently, it's partly because significant portions of the AGEod community have been diverted away by VGN (and soon RoP) development/beta testing, also by the newly released WWI game.
This game has great appeal. It will endure.

Absolutely agree with all the above. I've found the game quite engrossing, and am involved in a few PBEM games. I am a big AAR fan, and have thought quite a bit about writing one myself, but alas, time is lacking.......

I'm also playing more now that previously. Very fun and moves faster than AACW. I find I can knock out a year easily in an evening after work.

Isn't there still an issue with the AI committing suicide with winter marches?

Hi Rexor!

I think the game is very playable at it's current state.

Of course there is and always will be room for improvement of the AI. That's what the patches are for.

Cheers

Hi Hobbes, that large scenario on Pontiacs war sounds interesting.A great book on the subject is THE CONQUERORS by Allan W.Eckert, highly recommended.

I just picked this one up and got hooked in by the sale price. I have the original BOA and glad to be back with WIA. Will do PBEM at some point when I refresh my memory on this old but new game.

Yes, I have seen that one. I have been reading Parkman and a couple of other books on the rebellion but I may well get The Conquerors. Mmm maybe for Christmas.
Thanks, Chris

RoP is Rise of Prussia, the next AGEOD game about Frederic the Great campaigns (Seven Years war in Europe).
The game is already on development, but there is not much official info on the game still
But if you check you will see some forum members have RoP betatester titles and Lodilefty is RoP Coordinator in addition to WIA Coordinator.
Maybe he can tell you something more

Not much more to say at this time. Ongoing scenario research, models and units development, and an Alpha version are in the works....
We could use another beta tester or 3 once we get Alpha version running

One of my dreams in life is to say that I've been a beta tester for something...how does one get in on that deal?

Something involving goats and virgins.

Nah, that's what they do elsewhere; here it's all about cultists (especially devoured ones) and things from the depths of the Pacific Ocean

Mosby, we're always looking for good people to join our beta teams

What I recommend that you do is that you find out which game(s) you would like contribute to and think about how you would like and how you are capable of contributing. Areas where more people are needed are typically research and playtesting and especially scripters (= people who put research into gamefiles). Send your "job application" by PM to me, and I'll take it from there

I am currently playing 3 Pbem games of WIA at the moment and enjoying them loads.... I was waiting for the new 1.03c patch which fixed an auto retreat bug that was hampering the games I had going at that time.... since that patch was released I havn't noticed any major bugs yet

.. In conclusion WIA is good...very good in fact, less complex than AACW which I prefer (AACW stopped working on my PC, due to a program in the backgound), but Its just a matter of taste or opinion....

It may be somewhat due to the fact that the game is not yet available at retail outlets/websites in the U.S. Many people will only buy games off the shelf as opposed to purchasing a download.
I suppose, too, that some people may be unaware of a new game until they see it on store shelves. e.g. I hadn't heard of AACW until I saw it at Best Buy. I went home and tried the demo and purchased the game the next day. In fact, if it weren't for these forums, I would not have known about BoA2. Hopefully it'll eventually be released in the U.S. (cracks open a beer and waits... :wacko

Java is too slow and doesn't have a real garbage collection.
I think he would would prefer a cup of Virgin(ia) Highlands tea. Yum Yum!

I enjoy this much more than AACW. I find AACW to be a great game but BoA2 is elegant and near perfect.

Sorry to intrude...
...but I've been kinda wonderin': what's the difference between
War in America and
Birth of America II? Aren't they both from the same time period? What's different about the way the games "feel"?
On a different matter... why is that goat lookin' at my... uh, lookin' at me, that way?
Plus, I think the reason that you're bizarre rituals (with goats and coffee and girls) aren't working is maybe 'cause the girls aren't... uh... (delicate cough) ...well, you know.
They're just
sayin' they are, to kinda protect their dignity and stuff.
