Control of Fortesses along the River Elbe was of paramount importance for 1813 Campaign planning and resolution.
Moving South to North along River Elbe we met in this order the fortress of:
Dresden, Torgau, Wittenberg, Magdeburg, Hamburg.

Actually in NCP map, Dresden is represented as a major City, rather than a fortres.
Wittenberg is a region with no city or fortress.

THE MAJOR BUG is with [color="Red"]Wittenberg & Magdeburg[/color] positioning that to work properly in NCP map should be exchanged!
In NCP map Wittenberg is placed north of Magdeburg, while in the reality we have the contrary.
Anyway we should have both this fortresses in the map in so far they control the two main roads to access berlin from the west Berlin, across the Elbe.

I reported the trouble at the Help to improve NCP! forum.
Guess will not have a fix soon: I assume it's not easy to exchange region names, in so far all scenery setup files, and may be other files too, have to be re-worked & corrected.
That fix will also be not compatible with currentely played games, (I suppose).

Anyawy I guess we have to consider this evident map bug when going after the different 1813 Campaign mods that have been announced.
So, I'll manage to add [color="Red"]WITTENBERG FORTRESS[/color], although I'll not try to change/exchange Wittenberg & Magdeburg Region names.

Modders, I guess, will have to consider the non correct positioning of Wittenberg & Magdeburg on NCM map when deploying forces at the start of the Scenery they are designing.
So, supposing a Corps was historically placed in front of Magdeburg, campaign editors are suggested to place it in front of [color="Red"]Wittenberg[/color] in NCP map!!!!
...At least they should take a moment to think over this possibility.

Here are the results of first modding attempts over NCP map:

Magdeburg and Wittemberge Regions have been exchanged in position, as the respective Cities & Fortresses.



In this second picture you can noticed that the small flags placed in regions also matches the changed Region names.
That's true also for the "pop up window": the cursor was placed over Magdeburg!

In this different mod, we have :

Default NCP Region >>>>>> [color="red"]Re-worked to new Region[/color]

Magdeburg >>>>> [color="Red"]Rosslau[/color]
Burg >>>>> [color="red"]Wittenberge[/color]
Wittenberge >>>>> [color="red"]Burg[/color]
Uelzen >>>> [color="red"]Madgeburg[/color]

[color="red"]Wittemberg and Magdeburg Fortresses [/color]have been moved accordingly.
I prefer this solution in so far Magdeburg is no so close to Hamburg as in the previous version.
Wittemberg and Magdeburg Fortresses occupy a relative map position close to real topography, and anyway they control the two main roads to Berlin from the West.

Note that in this example too, Region flags and region description pop-up windows match correctely the new region names.

BTW, I'm going to upload a mini-mod to Germany 1813 Struggle of Nations based over this region setting.

P.S.: I agree to incorporation of the mod into NCP vanilla, but,...what's NCP vanilla?

Hehe... "NCP vanilla" is the "oficial", un-modded game. Some changes proposed by gamers are frequently able to be incorporated in a future oficial AGEOD patch (see for exemple the work of Gray_Lensman in AACW. he started correcting railroad map errors in the map of AACW and his great work was "oficialized"). NCP map has several errors (some pointed by me and others in other thread), and I feel that your changes are important. If there were these 2 fortresses covering the roads to Berlin they should be corrected in the oficial files.

Perhaps you could help Ageod team doing some rework for the map. Warsaw and Danzig were one area on the right and left respectively, there is perhaps some other mistakes.

Historical 1813 models for French units & Magdeburg - Wittenberg topograpihc mod are part of the mod.

Indeed my major interest is going after the April 1813, Struggle of Nations Campaign mod, now!
I'll consider fixing map topographic anomalities only when they could severely influence strategic planning.
Anyway, I'll keep mind of your notification as regard Warsaw and Danzig, even if at present I'm mostly worried with Leipzig position, that should be placed anywhere western of its actual place, I guess!

BTW, I have doubts as regard the way I used modding the map.........

Although The Struggle of Nations 1813, mod ver. 1.04 can be played with no troubles to completion, the modding to Region names are not compatible with most, if not all, default campaigns!

In other words, we could have, without troubles, Magdeburg Fortress placed in Uelzen Region, while Wittemberg Fortress will be placed in Burg Region.
Of couse, Fortress and Region names will not match: it's a small problem we'll have to live with, but with the advantage of a major compatibility between different campaigns!!!!!!!

Assumed the noli me tangere nature of region names here is my new mod to Germany map.


Magdeburg-Berlin area
Magdeburg Fortress moved to Uelzen so to control Northern Elbe crossing along the Western route to Berlin.

Wittemburg Fortress added to Burg Region so to control Southern Elbe crossing along the Western route to Berlin.

Spandau Fortress added in Eberswalde Rigion so to control the East-Southern route to Berlin.


Saxony Area

Dresden modified to be a river-port fortress.

Leipzig moved to Halle Region.
Halle Region is now part of Saxony.


None of region names modified!!!!!

Of course now we have, as an example, Lepzig Region with no structures and Halle Region with Leipzig City!

One more time to summarize... You can "manually" modify these files (.rgn and .bmp) for standalone MODs only.

Do NOT send them to AGEod for "official" use, because if you do, and they somehow get into the game, AGEod will be very reluctant to accept any more work as a result.

It's all clear!
Now the rule I'll assume is to go after my Campaign mods, without "manual" changes to .rgn and .bmp file........My hope is to see my projects merged in the game for official use!
The only modding over scenery map will be limited to edit structures, as Cities, Depots, Fortresses.....that's expected to be not a trouble.

At worst "manual" changes to .rgn and .bmp file will be worked separately from Scenery mods and regarded as studies over "what if" or as evidences of "good suggestions" and requests addressed to the AGEOD TEAM for future official mods & improvements.
