Say I have a question?
I was seriously considering this game, but doubted the combat engine would reproduce combat of this era...you know the square takes cavalry, versus line takes square, and cav takes lined Inf, as the AGEOD engine seems best suted for ACW-WWII era combat to be honest....wondering your guys opinion was on that?

This is abstracted, as the whole combat handling in all ageod game, but squares and charges are taken into account ... you won't just see them for real
Some units have the charge capability, some have the form the squares capability. Checks are made according to that.

sounds cool, ok its handled by units ability to form a square?...as if i had cavarly attacking your infantry, they have a rating on how well they can form a square versus how well they perform as lined infantry?
Am I understanding that right?

I have tried many Napoleonic Era Boardgames and PC Games: I admit there things to be improved, but NCP is the best ever!

I must admit that I enjoy NPC even more than AACW. Too bad it has no grand campaign but the whole "battle experience" is (at least for me) better than in AACW. Also NPC is great when you are in a "war" mood and you want to play a battle or two but you are short on time.
Amazing game that you really should try - the more they sell the better the chances for improvements and more games from this period

Am I understanding that right?

Cavalry when at close range check for the charge, which take into account the commander and the unit discipline. If the test is ok, it charges.

Then the target test to form the square, witch basically the same modifiers (commander + discipline).

This lead you to that:

cavalry don't charge: nothing special
cavalry charge, infantry don't form the square: dmg against infantry x1.5
cavalry charge, infantry form the square: dmg against cavalry x2

But as I said, this is under the hood. It is there and functionning in the combat module, but until we add some narrative of the battle, you won't really see the gleam of raised sabers in the morning, and shouts of the officiers yelling at the soldiers to form the square on the other side of the field!

Hmmm yaeh just some little burb would be nice I think...I mean will I get any narrative back on the battle, about unit fought lined or in square?

The only reason I ask, is I enjoy the time period, but know very little about the combat except for Waterloo and the square versus lined thing. That Napolean was defeated in part, by the ability to not be able to coordinate his cavalry an lined infantry correctly....to attack with cavalry when they were lined and attack with infantry when they were in a square.

Other then that one fact I know very little about the time period as we in the USA never once used the square tactic, because of a quite in fighting here during the Napoleaonic age. So I was wondering how this era is represented using the AGEOD engine.

I would do the demo download but man it looks long lol....I would rather just order it if convinced and wait for shipping lol

Actually Im hopping they tackle WWI next...but they seem pretty secretive on that lol
