NC vs AACW

Hi ,
Just got the demo of NC and it looks great
Can someone tell me what bits play out simpler than AACW and which bits are more involved and complicated? I know it sounds an odd question and that overall it is a great improvement on AACW
thanks

The most obvious difference is the lack of a grand campaign in NCP but I find the fact that there are so many different scenarios available that there is a much better variety of gameplay (and the Spanish Campaign is over 200 turns long so if you want a looooooong game there's one there).
There aren't as many political options in NCP although some have been added with the patches and I'm sure that there are more to come.
In the smaller scenarios the armies and corps are already set up and the short turn length sometimes means that it's not worth messing about with - the longer scenarios still give you a lot of freedom to tinker with the armies and corps.
I find the supply situation much more complex in NCP (I mean that as a positive), particularly when you are trying to march into Russia!!! I'm still struggling with these problems and I've had a few corps decimated because I haven't kept my supply chain intact
In summary, I love both games but my preference is NCP - I find it a more varied tactical game overall

Sounds good to me

At the moment I'm a bit lost on all the political and industrialization options open to me on AACW, so I was hoping that NCP was going to be a bit easier to follow.
The Peninsula War is my main interest, so I am looking forward to seeing how that one plays out. Though I'll have to wait to get the full version of NCP as my graphics card (128Mb) is struggling with the map and giving me a hard time scrolling around it, so 512Mb Graphics Card first, game afterwards

How many RAM have you ?

I have 2Gb of DDR2 which I got recently when I got AACW. The Radeon X300SE card though is a few years old and has been on my list to replace for a while. I'm looking at the 512Mb version of the Radeon X1550, which seems a resonable one.
The problem happened when I zoomed all the way out to get a good strategic view in the Jena scenario and then zoomed back in to a more practical level for manuevering. The scroll speed dropped off and became really sluggish.

Playing the demo i did not feel much difference on performance between AACW and NCP.
And i´m using older hardware that you (ATI 9600 pro and just 1GB of RAM here)

leure:
The scroll speed porblem you explain happens to my also, but just the first time i zoom out or move to a new part of the map.
The areas graphics need to get loaded on memory the first time, but after that everythig goes smoothly. Check it and you will see.
I dont think you need to upgrade to play the games. Just by a little patient on your first "zoom out" and the rest of the gaming session will be smooth.
Anyway, i think AGEod games ask more from the RAM than from the graphic card.
Cheers!

I have an X1650 with 256MB and the game is still quite sluggish, but I have only 1 gig of DDR RAM so....
The map is very detailed, I guess it would really shine with a 512 graphics card and at least 2gig DDR.

Use the Map Loading limit Option to restrict the amount of map being loaded and your scrolling issues will disappear.

Thanks for that, problem solved

Just about convinced the wife that I need the new card as well. I wonder if I should tell her or not?

Game running very slow

I found the best way to resolve this was to disable my Norton Anti Virus - game then worked like a dream

Fortunately I don't use Norton Anti Virus. I came to the conclusion that I'd get the full game first and then see how it goes before deciding on the graphics card. Just waiting for the boxed edition to arrive then I'll be off around Europe
