Ageod maps

Graphically, I was curious as to how the maps in Ageod games like BOA and AACW are created. I'm assuming it starts as a very large flat art file that gets sliced into separate components or tiles so the game engine can display them more quickly.

Correct.
The ExMap utility is available in the Files for Modding thread...
You must supply your own antacids and Aspirin, however...

Thanks Lodi
Actually, I'm not so much interested in modifying the terrain characteristics as in modifying the look. With AACW, I've been experimenting a bit with the area between Washington and Richmond but it's still incomplete. It's a huge job. Given the overall size of the map it'll be a looonng time before I finish...if ever.

This reminds me a question about readibility of the map (with so much roads and railroads); why can't we display road and rail net as a filter rather superpose them on the main map display ?
(sorry if it has been already discussed and solved)...

Thanks Jarkko and Old Peter.
However, as you can see by the zoomed out map, I still have a continent to go. Plus, there needs to be a winter version. Then it needs to be cut up into the individual region files. I may be inhabiting a rubber room before it's done.

For the cut, if you keep the same scale, it will be done in a matter of minutes. But for the rest ...

re Adlertag: Railways are included directly into bitmaps to save memory.

Where is this LARGE map?
BTW - Bo, excellent work.

The large map comes as a .bmp file. I'm sure the original one was done in something like photoshop with layers. That would be a much better and easier to map file to mod, and would make it faster to do.
Was the original a photoshop file or something other than the bitmap file? Is it possible to get that map file for modding?
