I currently play with a friend hotseat (saving and quitting each time, then reloading with the other save game) but it would mean things would work twice as fast if we could both be working on our orders on different computers at the same time. It seems like it wouldn't be too difficult to code. Any chance of this happening any time soon?
It is possible to do so already, but it requires manual work, i.e. that the non-hosting player is able to upload files to the AACW savegame directory on the hosting player's computer (or that the hosting player can retrieve them from the non-hosting player's computer).
There is currently no schedule for providing an automatic mechanism for this, though you are far from the only one who wants it (I know I do!

) and I am quite confident that we'll see support for something along these lines some day

That's quite possible already!
