Is it possible?

Hi,

I've been wargaming now for 33 years and an idea has come to me that I'd like to share.

I know that what I am asking for is not historical in any sense of the word, but I was wondering.............

........... From a pure wargaming standpoint, is it possible to create a (complete war) mod where :

The Union and Confederacy are equal?

What I mean is:

From the beginning, each side would have the same size army, navy, population, and industrial capacity. (I would take France and England out of the equation totally.)

Kind of like a tournament scenario where only your strategies with what you have and build are what determines who wins?

Some historians say that there is no way for the Confederacy to ever have won while some say "How could the Union not win?". I will say one thing for sure. It seems daunting to play as the Confederacy.

How I would start would be to bring the Confederacy up to the Union's level in most categories then work to balance everything out as best as I could.

I respectfully ask this of those that are far more knowledgable than I am about this game. I thank you for your consideration.

So, what do you think? Is it possible? Could it be done?

Cheers,
Rick

This would take loads of work. The game is already skewed to show a "Confederate Victory" to be more 'surviving' rather than 'winning' as in conquering the North. A lot of stuff would have to be changed, VPs, generals, etc. in order to make the game actually 'fair' based on absolute victory (as in this case the Confederates would have a distinct advantage in the current configuration).

Would be a huge amount of work here. However there is another ACW title "Forge of Freedom", which is different in many ways...however the original campaigns were built around a balanced North and South. This caused a lot of problems with a good number of people interested in these titles, but the game itself is still very good. And there are historical scenarios now too. If you have the money, it would be your place to look.
