Has anybody mentioned network games?

I have to admit I have no idea of how difficult this would be but it sure would be pleasant to be able to have a network game, both players working on their turns at the same time, then activate and have the execution visible to both players from their own perspective. I play ftf about half the time and hopping back and forth between seats (and finding something for the inactive player to do) is kind of a drag. The game would also play approximately twice as fast.

To answer your question in the topic; Yes, multi-player and gaming over networks is and has been the topic of more than a few discussions. I have every hope that we'll see some developments in this area in the future, but have no idea of exactly when it may come to be, I'm afraid.

You can already play in connected mode with ARES, our TCP/IP utility. As for a match-making service, it is in the air, but our resources are already thin and spread. (victory is in the schwerpunkt!)

Where do I find ARES?

Is it available for download?

I don't need matchmaking, my opponents are in the same house with me for the most part...

More information please

So I found ARES, a freeware p2p file sharing program. The question is, how do you use it to set up a "connected mode" between two computers on a LAN. That is what I want to do -- have one player sit down at one computer, another at a second computer on the same LAN, and both give their orders at the same time. Then, when the second one clicks on "end turn", the game would execute the turn, showing the appropriate information to each player. Is there any way to do this now, using ARES or something else? Forgive me as I am a pretty unskilled computer user and need some guidance.

Hi!
It is not that Ares p2p program.
The Ageod ARES utility is included on the Napoleon Campaigns Game.
But sorry, i cannot tell you more.
I had never try it as i´m a AI only player for the moment.
Maybe someone can give you more details :bonk:

Hello,

You can use ARES for any of our games. It is provided freely here:

http://ageoddl.telechargement.fr/latest/AGE_ARES.zip

Here is a screenshot of the utility. Basically you have one instance as the server and another as a client. You can run both on the same computer for testing purpose (this is what I did). When you are with a friend, one run the server and the other is the client, sending file or getting them.

You're missing the best part of the game as AI only player, Arsan :innocent:

Thanks, Pocus, that's what I needed. I'll try it out this weekend and if I have any questions I'll be sure to get back to you.

You should just include this with the game when you sell it. Or is it not quite ready to go?

It is included in NCP and will be in WIA. For AACW, it is not included in patchs but you can get it freely.

The utility is working but aside from the team, nobody playing with it, so it can have some remaining glitches :)
