That's good.

Gray_Lensman wrote:Thanks Pocus, I will check this out thorougly to be sure everything is in place cosmetic and RR MOD wise. It will probably take me a couple of days concerning how many files are involved. I'll get back to you regarding any problems or oversights found, if any, as soon as I find them.

Regards

Have you ever used FCOMPARE ? It's a free utility that compares file content in bulk between two sets of files. I've loaded up your mod (and runyan99's leader mod) and the "base" install (for 1.08d) and been able to see which files are changed almost instantly Pretty slick for a freebie! :niark:

Okay, found the problem, somehow during your update build you accidentally used the wrong files for 38 Centre PA. The ones being used are dated 4/9/2007, whereas the correct ones attached below are dated 10/20/2007. These files were not in the RR MOD files, as they were already in an earlier patch for ACW late last year.

I just overwrote the incorrect ones with these and it corrects the problem.

Everyone else testing this beta, just unzip the two files below and overwrite them into the ....ACW/Graphics/Region folder and go on with the testing.

Regards
.

Ummm, mine were already OK. :8o:

Don't confuse me with the facts, I've already made up my mind.....

I've been looking for a defrag utility that actually fully defrags the specified hard drive instead of leaving gaps like the cheap defrag utility that comes with WinXP. Reason being, if all the gaps are filled then fragmentation is slower to start expanding again. When some of my larger files fragment across these stupid gaps they slow down the loading process somewhat.

Nothing [yet] for defrag.
I use CONTEXT for all text file work. It has some nice features (programming format filters, file compare, line numbering, etc.). Also free!
..and Irfanview to view graphcs. Not much editing, but I'm very much NOT an artist!!! :siffle:

My map is also ok, with plain 1.08e. It is probably your files that are somehow corrupted, not Pocus's

After downloading and installing 1.08e, I don't see the 1862:East scenario backgrounds, descriptions, etc. that I wrote and submitted for inclusion.

Something's broken somewhere... :bonk:

Gray_Lensman wrote:Did you uninstall/reinstall? It may be that you already had the correct files in your folder and therefore did not see this. I did an entire uninstall/reinstall and it left the original 4/9/2007 files from the v1.00 installation without replacing them, meaning the update patch is missing the two files above.

I always test the comprehensive patch, by totally uninstalling and reinstalling the game, then place the new comprehensive patch over the v1.00 installation. That way, I can find oversights. Anyone, just buying the game and doing a new installation would get the screen above.

Doesn't do much good to "beta" test if you are gonna do it half way.

There is no need to get upset. After all, I am not a official beta tester :siffle:
I certainly did not make a complete new uninstall/reinstall. I just patched over 1.08d AND your latest RR mod (20080117), as probably most of the current active and interested users will do...

I might try the uninstall/reinstall/patch to see if that fixes my strings file problem(s). But before I go through the hassle of doing that, I'd like verification from Pocus (and bigus) first.

(BTW, Gray & co., are you seeing the 1862:West strings applied to the 1862:East scenario as I do? My 1862:East background refers to Seven Days, Second Manassas, etc., not to Ft. Henry & Donelson, etc., as I am seeing it. :bonk: )

If so, again, I uninstalled/reinstalled, but this says something about the patch not being so comprehensive. It's not overwriting the files correctly maybe. Although, in this case I don't know why since it obviously wrote the correct file into my new installation which means it should have overwritten anyone elses previously existing installation with the correct Local_Strings file.

No, I'm not seeing that. :p leure:

It seems I need to do the uninstall/reinstall/patch, then. (Okay, bigus, maybe *that's* the source of the problem!)

I did notice that, after patching anew my heavily patched and patched and patched ... original installation, the latest 1.08e patch did not appear to overwrite my local strings file. Is there something in the patch mechanism that fails to do forced updates?

My west backgrounds seem ok... :siffle: (see attached)

Again, I just patched over 1.08d and latest RRmod

(btw, east scenario backgrounds also seem ok)

Maybe there's some sort of "security" or file permissions mechanism that prevents certain Windows files from being overwritten? :grr:

Anyway, with all the patching (not to mention manual updating of files downloaded from this Forum), I'm probably due for a complete reinstall from scratch anyway.

Yes and make sure you delete the folder as well from "program files" as well.
ie: A complete uninstall..

I am still seeing older versions of Berto's strings in the other scenerios though.

Yes gray..... As per the PM , you can see the credits on top In the West descriptions. this tells me it's an outdated string file. All credits were moved to the bottom in Bertos' last or most recent update. The East descriptions are current.

It's good that this is a beta. A great way to iron out some details.
I've yet to test the scenarios themselves but I have faith everything will work out O.K.

Yes, Gray, it appears that what Bigus says is right: In the 1.08e patch (from what you display here), the 1862:East strings are the latest, while the 1862:West strings are outdated. (And presumably also the strings for the earlier three scenarios we worked on are outdated.)

I'm a bit anxious about having all of my latest work integrated, because I corrected a thing or two in the earlier backgrounds and reworded here and there.

About the backgrounds: It is d*** difficult to summarize these very broad topics in 500 words or less. One is forced to leave so much out. :p leure:

Having said that, all should know that Bigus has done the lion's share of the work on these scenarios. I just wrote the backgrounds, helped out with the rest of the descriptions, victory conditions, etc., and did some light playtesting (leading to feedback and suggestions).

But Bigus deserves way most of the credit. They're really his scenarios.
