Paths from the Western boxes

Two odd things:

1) Just before I achieved victory I noticed new Rebel generals were entering the map via Canada- then travelling east to the Hudson River and going to their lines by the river movement system, or travelling directly south down to their lines- at a rapid rate of knots I might add.

2) Some strange movement paths from and between the Western off-map boxes: here are a couple of examples (all are for infantry);

a) A 30 day travel-time between the South West and the Great Plains.
b) A 33 day travel-time between the South West and the Northern box of The Rockies, whilst a journey to the box below The Rockies (Oregon) takes 116 days.
c) A 16 day travel-time between the South West and the northern province of Decatur, KS (located directly below Sioux City).
d) I have noticed many other odd movement paths from these boxes that the AI was able to exploit by suddenly appearing in my NW territories in force once she had taken the South West box, forcing me eventually to gather a LARGE :) division to reconquer the SW box.
e) Finally one odd path bug that didn't end up translating into time-warp travel: I went to move a militia unit from Kittang, PA to Johnson City (Carter County, TN) and was given this path: Kittang-->Jefferson County (adjacent, 5 days)---> Jefferson County (direct)---> Johnson City (6 days).

Hope this helps!

I finally realised the point at which most CSA generals enter the map via Canada (to Union Buffalo?) top-most province directly east of the Eastern Great lake.

It occurs when Richmond is taken and the Capital hasn't been relocated- they then enter here for the rest of the game. (v1.12)

One other thing: I built several cannon and supply wagons in the Eastern region of the Union, set them to travel by both rail and river to Fayetteville in NW Alabama- then waited and waited for then to arrive, but always distracted by other events. I finally realised that they were travelling directly across CSA territory below Island 10 and were obviously getting captured by the CSA so there maybe a bug in the path-finding?......

It may also be a good idea to mark the main exit points from each of the Western boxes onto the map (shortest routes)- it is very confusing indeed!!

Yes, I have noticed something similar. I am not sure the Western boxes are placed 'geographically' correctly, in other words their placement on the map doesn't necessarily mean that the exit point is the closest 'on-map' province.

I have noted that CSA leaders transfering across theatre from West to East (and vice versa) on their own, like to make use of the Mississippi and Ohio rivers, travelling through Ohio, and Indiana and Illinois (?). I don't know if the blocked Tenessee River is affecting the pathfinding algorithms, or if it something else.

Thanks for the replies guys,

I'll mount an expedition now to see if I can locate the long-lost thread :) ...

This is the best thread I've found: Funnily enough you provide files Gray!
They are update files however I believe? (as opposed to a list of the pathways)

Hi mate,

If you need someone to do a bit of the grunt work for your many projects then let me know- I'd be happy to do so as I'll learn a bit more about modding in the process. I'm off until the 28th however.

Happy holidays!
