Disbanding militia

Is there a way to see how long the militia and other troops have enlisted for? I reallize that with some leaders troops will elect to continue, but it is annoying that my troops all leave me high and dry Jan. 1 with no warning whatsoever....
we all have heard one reason Washington crossed the delaware on christmas eve was that many of his troops were quitting after new years eve. so why can't I throw caution to the wind in december, too?

leure:
In my campaign it seems I get troops in Feb and August, so they should leave in jan and july, but I can't tell who is leaving when -- am i missing something?
if i am not, i think it should be noted somewhere, obviously the real-life leaders new when the different units' contracts were going to expire
thanks
great game
after i finish my campaign i will find a pbem game i think

The disbanding is random. Each unit has a chance to remain, and this chance can be modified by a leader if he's charismatic.

Sorry Sully, I missed somehow your post. As Blackbellamy says, there is not a duration of enlistement set in stone. Each militia has a chance to disband at the end of the year (it depends of the type, rebels militia disband more often that loyalists ones, and even continental armies regiments can disband, unless of the trained sort).
If you have a charismatic leader with the stak, it will goes a long way in reducing this percentage. The basic idea is: when winter approachs, gather your most important militias under a charismatic leader, or be prepared to have a "rotation": militiamen will return homes, and new ones will appears in the following months.
1.07 will do some goods to the american: all the code pertaining to the training of militias into continental army regiments has been perused and 2 bugs have been fixed. You should be able to convert your rebels mob into a proper weapon more easily!

I think Sully has a good point. Maybe the roll for militia returning home could be done a year earlier and the unit flagged for disbandment at years end with
a small chance of avoiding this or prolonging service if stacked with a charismatic leader. It is a little odd that the commander has no idea of militia service length.

yes,
I am all for the militiamen returning home to their farms and to impregnate their wives, thereby producing even more future enlistees; BUT I think even the most clueless leader (granny gates

) would realize that his ragtag army is about to go home at the end of December....
(I think the Charismatic leader attribute is a wonderful addition to the game, as well as loyalists being more like to stick around and militia being most likely to go home-- all perfect hits for the game)

Are troop losses figured into the VP's? If not this knowledge may lead to too many gamey suicidal attacks.

Yes, all troop losses bring VPs to the opponent

troop losses?
do you mean due to battles and bad weather only?
or does the opponent get VPs when my militia disbands?
