Serial Number Problem

Hurray, BOA arrived today. Unfortunately, I can't get the game to recognize the serial number.
Is the serial number, the :"X-NAS-Validation number" which was on the email acknowledging my order? I have tried the number with the {} and without. Still the program does not recognize the number.
It also states I should get my serial number from the validation card. Where and what is the validation card?
Help!!!
