It is July 1776 in the 75-83 American Revolution War scenario.

In June, I had 5 militia regiments in Charleston. After the recruitment phase in July, I noticed that 4 of the militia regiments had converted to continental line. Ok, great!

Then I looked a little closer. They were definitely blue continentals but they were listed as continental militia and with militia combat stats.

I thought the conversion from militia to continental produced a minimum of line with line stats? I don't recall continentals as continental blue militia with militia stats in the past.

Is this abnormal or have I just not been paying enough attention?

Ummm...first I wanted to find out if this event could be a normal event...

I created three new militia unit models which allowed me to give the "Southerner" attribute specifically to NC, SC and GA militia regiments.

Here is my step by step process for creating the units and effect.

1. Create new models in models.xls for NC, SC, Ga militia regiments. (New militia unit models needed to separate NC, SC and Ga regiments from other NE/Middle state units. Same models used by states outside of the south.)

a. Copied Ame Militia units on lines 72,73,74 and pasted at end of models list.
b. Change Column D Alias for each new model from respectively Reb1, Reb2, Reb3 to Reb5, Reb6, Reb7.
c. Add "Southerner" to the Ability0 column to each new model.
d. I did not change the primaryupgrade or secondaryupgrade columns. Remains Ame_inf/Lit

e. Save XLS file, Convert to CVS file, create models, place models in models file.

2. Modified data lines in units.xls file for NC, SC and Ga regiments

a. changed referenced "model types" for each state militia data line to match the alias identifiers of the newly created models, from Reb1, Reb2, Reb3 to Reb5, Reb6, Reb7---only change made.
b. I did not change the unitautoupgradecolumn---remains Ame_Inf11. Although I have no idea what that column is for as the uni file numbers don't match anything in the model file--perhaps for events??

c. Save XLS file, convert to CVS file, create units, place units in units file

3. Did not add any references to the "unit alias" file as I only changed data in an existing unit file rather than create new unit files.

4. I added three new references to the "model alias" file as I created three new models files.

5. Did not add anything to local strings as the existing generic event should handle any announcement of a status change from militia to continental.

Very simple, simple change-at least I thought it was simple. The NC, SC and Ga units have the "southerner" area restriction and work as intended-until they are converted to continentals. At which point, the units are called continentals and have continental colors but militia symbol and militia values.

Upgrades have not been changed in any way. I can't see what could possibly have caused this problem. Any ideas?

It just happened again-although on Feb 76.

Very odd as militia and continental conversions should not happen till July 76.

Also odd is that at least one regiment from GA, NC and SC made this conversion to continental blue background and continental uniforms yet keep the militia names and militia stats. But at least one regiment from SC remains normal. All are still located in the south.

Ok, perhaps I have found the problem. Starting southen militia units in the 76 scenario files are not referencing the correct alias reference in the model files.

The error is occuring in the 76 campaign but not in the 75 campaign because we don't have southern US militia in the setup. Their first appearance is as a reinforcement event and they reference the new models properly.

In the 76 campaign however, there are southern militia in the setup. They start the scenario referencing the old model but when the first turn advances, apparantly they now must reference the new models. Seems the conversion is a strange mix of an upgrade and integration of the new model.

I am wondering now about the error I originally spotted-was it the 75 campaign?? Did it happen earlier and I didn't notice it till July as I was testing something else? I don't know.


I will update the starting references for the 76 campaign tomorrow. I think that will take care of the problem.
