feature suggestion

Love the game, just love it...

Something I would like to see is an interface that would pop up as you were set to initiate combat, showing what factors were at play, what sort of modifiers were being applied, and what was known about the enemy.

I have seem them before in wargames as sort of a "combat manager", letting you know what you were getting into (to the best of your intelligence). It is hard to keep track of all the modifiers in your head as you drag to combat.

For instance, as you mouse over a potential target, you would be made aware of the leadership, weather, terrain, special troop abilities, etc etc as they effect combat modifiers so that you knew going in what you adjsuted combat strenght is.

I believe they are working on something along these lines - perhaps for the next patch.

If such a thing as a combat manager does get put in, please put in an option to disable it. I really like playing the game as is, I enjoy the realism. Why turn it into a game of numbers?

Beside that I dont think that a one meter long tooltip box would be sufficient to give you all the details that the battle engine will use if you fight in the region. :)

There is already a week work of interface improvement planned, and dont forget the IA that request some attentions too.

numbers

well, it already sort of is a game of numbers, I just would like to see what the numbers are, and be able to make calculated decisions...I didnt see it as a tool tip as much as an interface that pops up, like the combat results screen.

Thanks for all of your replies...good stuff.

This is somewhat off topic, as it is more of a general game philosophy kind of thing, and absolutely subjective, but I prefer when I dont know the exact numbers. Make it that more of a simulation. Even in games where I could engage in calculating my exact chance for victory, I dont do it.
But then again, its all tastes.

I agree Tamas, I prefer to not calculate combat odds down to a solid ratio like 3 to 1. I think there should be some element of uncertainty and prefer to trust to the fortunes of war.

you're right

I dont see it as an exact reporting of numbers either...just a condensed version of what is known about your position and what is known about the defenders position and troops, considering FOW and what woudl be known in teh field anyway. It wouldn't be something like "you have an 89% chance of victory"...more like "terrain is effecting your position this way, and your adversairy that way....you have xx strenght and your defender has xx (to teh best of your intelligence)...your leaders have these modifiers effecting combat this way.....your suppliy will effect you at -2......the weather is -1.....etc.

Something general of that nature would be fine with me.

why not, but no promises either, there is already a ton of micro features to add ;)

Agreed. No exact numbers. please.

I actually like the combat screens as is. They tell you the factors that affect each side. It just takes a while to learn all the symbols.

I'd just like to see the combat screen pop up before the battle so I can see< and better understand, what's about to happen.

queeg, you hit the nail right on the head...I just want to know whats about to happen.

I also find it amazing that a developer is even listening to all of these ideas...unheard of in this day and age, thanks aso much!

Another addition - request....

Is it possible to have the Events for that month (that shows at the bottom of the screen) be saved to a txt file? It would be great if that months event activity could be saved and it could be used in an AAR or sent for verification of what happened (PBEM).

An option (pregame) to have the output sent to a file (by month) would be great.

can be done, but clearly not a priority (I need time for the IA gentlemen, and this week is already spent on interface, so leave a bit of time for your artificial opponent ;) ).
Its added in the wishlist though.
