"Balloon has been moved to New England"

Sat Mar 29, 2008 1:30 pm

So I get a balloon unit, that's fine. I am told that it's being assigned to my largest field army, that would be McDowell's, fine. Only the last message in the log for the same turn (turn 6 of the April 1861 campaign) says "balloon has been moved to New England", and sure enough, there it is, floating in the foggy air over Boston harbour. Only what's it doing there, and why, eludes me ... and the tooltip info for this log message gives me no clue. Can anybody?

And while we're at it, why does McDowell suddenly become fixed?

It happened to me also on my last game.
Then i thought is was beacuse there was too many stacks already on the region (i had two files of tabs one over the other :nuts :) .
But its only a supposition... :siffle:
About McDowell fixed... it should not be.
Are you sure you have not locked his tab yourself by accident by right clicking on the tab?
Regards

I remember in the first version balloon was placed rather randomly on the map. It was added in a patch the current event version but I suppose tooltip to have not been upgraded.

The event unfortunately doesn't differentiate between land and naval units. So if you have a whole bunch of naval units in one sea region (like the freebies in the Atlantic Blockade box), that together are more powerful than any land stack, then that is where your first balloon appears. The engine compensates by moving it to the nearest friendly land region ... in this case, New England. This is similar to what happens when leaders get wounded in remote locations.

I don't know why McD would become fixed.

Could not it be because you inadvertently combined his stack with a fixed unit ?

That must be it! Thanks. :)
