Early Confederate organization

Wed Nov 23, 2016 9:11 pm

Hey guys! I have a few quick post-tutorial questions. From the July 1861 start, the major Confederate armies have a significant deficiency in Command Points, resulting in inefficiency ratings of 15-25%. Yet, with division formation blocked until October 1861 and corps formation blocked until later in 1862, there seems to be no way to remedy this short of stripping units from the armies. I'm loathe to do that, as my armies already are weaker than Union adversaries. Additionally, I have a number of low-skill 1-star generals in Richmond who have no brigades and consequently seem to have no function. Is there something I'm missing here?

Hi Rittermeister!

Welcome to the forum and to the game!

At the beginning, you will have a command point penalty. The main consolation is that your opponent also has it (although if you increase the AI difficulty, Athena's penalty won't be as big). It represents the challenges of organizing the large armies early in the war.

For the 1 star generals, these will be useful for forming divisions or sending to your troops elsewhere. You also have the possibility to merge them into brigades in your armies. If you combine a general into your brigades, the brigade will fight slightly better (it will gain the benefit of the overall stack commander and the unit commander you merged in with the unit during combat - usually about a 3%-6% increase to hit). It won't address the command penalty.

Happy gaming!
