Hello Eric (I suppose you're E Rutins from Matrix :niark: ),
I'm wondering how is the development of the new GG-ACW game going, but the 2B3 journal is quite not updated, there's nothing from 2007 except a birth announcement ! :siffle:
Do you have some more info ?

IMO the review of FoF on the Wargamer was ambivalent. I bought Crown of Glory and IMO the tactical battles were very simplistic. IF you wanted to be sure of wining a battle you played it out on the tactical field. As the reviewer pointed out, the novelty of the tactical battles quickly wears off and you end up skipping that feature entirely. I know I did in CoG.

If you want a tactical civil war game try Take Command 2nd Manasas. If you want a strategy game, stick with Ageod. ( This opinion is based on my Crown of Glory experience that seems to be confirmed by the Wargamer review of FoF- I have not played FoF).

I bought them Two with absolutely no regreat. They have a different approach of this conflict and in fact they are complementary.

I initially wrote this for the folks who read the MAtrix forums., since then I continue to really enjoy ACW, or B and G. So see below for a deferentiated look, or just get both. FYI fof detailed combat may be the best ai ever ! hard and humbling at the extreme!

""I love the FOF detailed combat.. and you can SUPER micro manage what troops have what guns and specialties as the uniun, the conferderacy too its just much harder to do with the economy.. Want to manage an economy? manage a nation, play politics with the goveonors? FOF has a TON more depth.. BUT IS IT BETTER? b and G is a great game with a good to great engine.. other than I really tried to find that part where you have to cont click to org a division! did not see it anywhere in the manual, finally the third time through the second tut.. ok, slow lerner on that one!

My recomendation, I think they are both A/B games... for different reasons... is if you want to get into extream long detailed warfare and economic growth, and trust me fof has depth but you do not need to get a phd to understand, not complex , more intricate.. go for FOF..
On the other hand, if you want LESS control on things like what city is building what, and how many horse farms etc to build, and want to concentrate on army makeup, and manuever.. STRATEGIC manuver, then go for B and G... I am playing both and it is not an easy choice ...

Why only a A/b?... for FOF it is too complex for a casual gamer, and managing the econeomy is, while engrossing, draining as well. For B and G I also give it a A/b for the simple reason is I am still peaved about taking three hours to figure out a simple thing, I know user error but still. What are the good points of B and G and FOF.. very challenging to impoosible on the hardest levels... want some humility? play detailed battles in fof on a harder setting! I love it! ""

I'm tempted to get Forge of Freedom, but the price scares me off... Matrix games just seems a lil on the 'high' side.. I've always been frugal, wait till the price comes down, search for sales. In these economic times.. 50 for an electronic download is too much.. I mean they charge 50 for ACW.. but everywhere else.. Best Buy... Circuit City, Amazon, it's 29 bucks.. I would think once the intial release excitement is over, you'd want to pick up the stragglers by having lower price and thus selling a lot more units...

They have John Stiller's Campaign series for 35 bucks.. I mean those games are over 10 years old.. I still have em.. Loaded up Rising Sun the other day (boy did it seem 'old') East Front, West Front, Rising Sun.. While classics, the Matrix price is just too high...

You can call me a cheapskate, but it's just the way I am... lol maybe it's cause my parents lived through the Great Depression

remember when VHS tapes were 80 bucks when they first came out.. that didn't last long!!! and it's probably why 'blue ray' hasnt' taken off

Buy the games directly from ATEOD! IF you must pay such high costs, they might as well reap the benefits from all their dedication. I have talked to Erik about this to no effect. There are several Matrix games I would like to have tut they want too much!! And now with the recession ... it is just unreasonable. Games are great though. t

It is! The detail is awesome. Napoleons Campaigns is just as good too if not better.

Bought FOF

Sun Jun 21, 2009 2:20 pm

Well, I caught a 'sale' and picked up FOF.. when I first started it, I was disappointed, I think AGEOD wins hands down, map/graphics wise. FOF seemed antiquated, I like the music better on AGEOD as well.

But as I got into the game I found it to be very rich in content, if you do like controlling your Army's destiny by investment and technology, this game definitely has that. As other posts I've seen say, if you don't like micromanagement then this is not for you. But the game settings are very expansive, so you can turn off and on as much as you need to tailor the game to your liking.

These are two totally different games... But they both shine in their own right. I think best solution is to own both!

One area where AGEOD kicks butt though, is the Forums... This one is alive.. the FOF one is kind of Dead.. you need help through the forums, this one is a Gold Mine!.. Thanks for all the help in getting into a great game guys!
