Is there any chance for a mod or patch to change back the postures selection?

Wed Sep 17, 2014 3:27 pm

I have gotten used to the new interface and To End All Wars is definitely the best looking game of you so far.

However, I can absolutely not and will propably never get used to the horrible new posture selection. Why, oh why, did you change that?!?

Now I need to make FOUR clicks to change the posture instead of two! And worst, it's not just a double click I need to make a click, move the mouse to the correct one and then click again!

Is there any kind of hotkey or anything to make this easier? Or just any kind of ability to mod this?

Hotkeys:

A Assault
O Offensive
D Defend
P Passive

SHIFT + A, O, D, P for ROE selection.

Thanks a lot! That's great to know.

Truth be told I use mostly hotkeys for everything, as new the interface is indeed terrible.
A O D P is great, but the hotkeys for the ROE are problematic because I need two hands.

It's just such a weird change I think.
I would understand it if the standard resolution was still 1024*768, but nowaways everyone should have a large enough screen for some eight buttons...

The same is true for the map overlay selection.

I have expressed my opinion in another thread already. They wanted to make the interface pretty for arts sake. Usability has taken a big hit and people now use hotkeys, completely bypassing the UI.

100 % agree. The old interface is way easier and better to use. There are a lot of very questionable UI changes in CW2 and TEAW. They mostly involve repositioning of buttons so that you need more clicks and more mouse movement.

+1.

I've gotten used to it, but it is a big step backward for ease of use.

To be fair it must be said that the hotkey method is the best of all. Nothing is faster than controlling a program with keys.
The problem is that only a few die hard people will know it.

I must confess I hate the new system. And I do not like to learn or use hot keys. Why not restore the old system, which gave you a nice visual choice? And was so much easier to use?

I've adapted to the posture hotkeys pretty quickly, but if nothing else, I wish the fly-out menus for movement, command, etc., would stay open while cycling through your armies.

Yes, the new UI is horrible. I've never quite gotten used to it, and I'm always reminded of its badness when I play other Ageod games with the old UI.

We do our best with the time we have. What you see is purely optional and is activated within the Options Window.

I like it. Not so pretty but less clicks, when you play for hours it is the most important !

Very nice, almost like it was before. Though I'm also concerned about all other menus too, the postures can be nicely handled with the A O D P keys.

I'd also appreciate if someone would mod new icons (for the three order menus) that are more distinct from each other, the ones we have are pretty but not meaningful enough. I have to read the tooltips all the time.

I love it, great option!

@GlobalExplorer... what icons would be more meaningful, there? I'm drawing a blank.

the Special Orders (3 menus on top)

the were simpler in the past, and better at telling at a glance what they do

This is why AGEod ROX! Other devs would tell you guys to get stuffed and learn to love
it the way it is. I've never run across devs more dedicated to getting a game right than
these guys.

I feel like a fool, but I have clicked on the options tab, and I cannot find where to choose this option. Where can I find this? I truly want to activate it.

This is in the first patch. It will be in public beta very very soon by the way. :)

The special orders stay deployed right? There was some modifications to allow that, but you need to be in a certain resolution or above (1440+ pixels wide IIRC).

Yes they stay open (1680x1050)

But I find it a bit odd that I don't see which one is actually active, so I usually click the buttons another time, starting from the left until I "find" the option I want. The whole thing has something of a try and error approach. It would help tremendously if the active one is higlighted. Perhaps that has to with the icons looking kind of random to me too ..

Another small issue, it can happen when I load another savegame, the faction menu on the right still has French units active, though I switched to Central powers.

Yet another one, when I move the mouse over the NATO counter it shows the elements on the left, but once there are > 4 units it creates a second row which interferes with the mini map. Perhaps it would be better single line. I would also find it nice if the old behaviour ould be back, that the pictures are shown on the left when the mouse is anywhere over the whole icon (not just NATO counter), and the number of troops shown for each unit when ALT is pressed.
