Forces taking a long time to move

Thu Oct 18, 2012 8:54 am

I've had a couple of cases where my units get "stuck" in a province; i.e., suddenly they go from moving through provinces in 4-7 days to taking 140 (or more) days to enter provinces (meaning that they do not move). I assume this is a bug, since it does not happen regularly, and I cannot see any obvious reasons why they should be affected in this way.

Have a savegame available if that is of interest.

It might be because you have a ballistae unit attached, or an auxilliarie unit that is out of it's home area. Very low cohesion can also slow a unit down drastically.

also the question, do you have accidentally attached any urban militia ?

have you applied the last beta patch ?

do you have supply wagons in the stack?

any not-your-nation-units ?

and there are alos commanders which can slow down 25% based on the SLOWEST element in the stack. so with militia, ball., anyone low on cohesion, you end up with numbers which are ridiculous instead of a signal you should better stop marching

however, prone to throw them into disarray.

These difficulties accumulate and produce a friction which no man can imagine exactly who has not seen War . . . in War, through the influence of an infinity of petty circumstances, which cannot properly be described on paper, things disappoint us, and we fall short of the mark.‘

Ah... found the issue. Auto-generating ballistae. Not quite sure why they turn up, as I was set to march through the region, but there they are.

Perhaps ballistae should only be constructed upon arrival. "You know it makes sense" ;)

If there is an enemy controlled town in the province, and you "stop" moving, you construct ballistae.
Remember - The beatings will continue until morale improves.
