changing modes by accident

Mon Jul 04, 2011 4:20 pm

I often change modes by accident, when scrolling the map. I don't actually click on an army or one of the hemispheres of a city or cityscape, but if the mouse is positioned over one when released, the mode still changes. Does anyone else have this problem? I would find the map easier to use if I had to actually click on an army or city/scape to change modes.

I find it can be quite tricky to not end up in military mode clicking on towns sometimes.

There's a few regions where the the little gold box for military units in the town/fort is, for some reason, quite some distance from the town rather than adjacent like normal. In those ares it's the opposite problem and almost impossible to select your army :)

As for changing modes when you release the mouse button, what are you trying to do that you would be holding the button if you don't want to click?

I can't say I've had that specific problem with the map, as I don't click to scroll the map - but I have similar problems when I try to move a window (e.g. the Trade "T" window or the Assets "B" window) - I have to move the mouse very slowly, otherwise the mouse will "slip" off the window, the drag will stop, and I will end up clicking beside it. Also when I want to click something I need to click "slowly" (waiting a moment to release the mouse button) or sometimes it doesn't register - there definitely seems to be something wonky with the mouse handling.

It's annoying, but minor relative to other bugs with the game.

I hold down the left button to reposition the map. If I release it when the mouse is over the wrong half of a cityscape or countryside, that registers as a click and changes the mode. I should mention that I'm running the game in d3d9fullscreen mode. I wouldn't have noticed this issue otherwise, because I'd be using the arrow keys to reposition the map.

Tuoweit, I was having similar problems with the trade and balance windows, but switching to d3d9fullscreen fixed that. I've been using the following settings...

VGN\Settings\display.txt:
ScreenWidth = Default
ScreenHeight = Default
ScreenDepth = Default
ScreenFrequency = Default
FullScreen = 0
Windowed = 0
Borderless = 1

D3D9FullScreen = 1
sysVSynch= 0
sysMultiSampling = 0
VGN\Settings\display.txt:
Use3D = 1
I've noticed a similar problem with the balance window. I'm still learning how to play, so I like to open the balance window and then wander around the world, checking the trade areas. I usually reposition the map with the mouse, and if I release the button while the pointer is over a resource in the balance window, this registers as a click. I end up buying or selling ten units of whatever resource was under the pointer, without meaning to.
