The AI vs AI feature will be kept, rest assured. Although I see you have a tendency to be horrified by Athena's blunders ;)

Can you point me on the message of PhilThib on entrenchments please?

PhilThib's Entrenchment Reply

Thu Jan 20, 2011 3:59 pm

Pocus,
Man you had me sweating for a moment trying to remember where the heck I had posted my comments about the entrenchment being turned off and not working. Here is PhilThib's reply from that thread:

"I am not sure now that you mention it that the entrenchment level has been set to 0 by code... may be ask Pocus"

The thread is located 13 threads down under the main Napoleon's Campaigns page. The thread is titled "Entrenchment Level" by Omnius. His reply is #4 on that thread. I had no difficulty with entrenching and seeing it's level in BoA or the AACW demo but couldn't see it in NCP. I think everyone at AGEOD thought it was turned on but it appears to have been turned off for some patch and then not remembered to be turned back on afterwards.

I know you two Phil's are busy bees and I figured I'd better follow up with you to make sure that you got the message. Getting the entrenchment feature turned back on will really help NCP be a better game as it gives back to the defense it's ability to sit and entrench for a better defensive bonus and gives the defensive engineer ability meaning again. ;)

Don't worry overly much about my dissing Athena, she's much better than other AI's I've been truly horrified by like John Tiller's. Thanks for leaving the AI vs AI feature on and I think you should make sure to tout it as an added value feature for modders and players alike.

Pocus,

Accordind to a post in ROP forums, next patchs release will be delayed due to PON release. I understand very well, VGN will be my next game for sure.

Can you, as proposed in ROP forums, release an updated ''exe'' patch that, at least, can correct the model detail panel issue with abilities ?

Thank you for your outstanding support on ''old'' games.

Regards

Bohémond

Indeed a fix to get rid of the crashes would be fine, then I could finally play it.
I also would like to give some feedback, especially now for the new patch where anyone thought NCP wouldn't get another patch, it's important to take this chance.

Just out of curiosity, has a decision been made what patch we get?
Quick fix or the "Real McCoy"?

quick fix, if 'quick' can be used for something dragging over weeks. Problem is that I really can't spend time on NCP until PON is released, or perhaps only in week ends. I'll try hard to find a couple hours for NCP, promised.

Waiting Patiently

Wed Mar 09, 2011 4:14 pm

Pocus,
Thanks for the update on when to expect the next NCP patch. I've decided to shelve the game for now and wait patiently for the next really good comprehensive NCP patch that's more than just an exe fix. Since it looks like PoN has the big priority and that it's release isn't until June I guess I'll be waiting for a few months. :(

Well at least for me I can then finally play without crashes and can give feedback that maybe flows into the next patch, so I take the fixed exe right away.

Entrenchment

Thu Mar 10, 2011 3:39 pm

If the quick exe fix contains the fix for turning on entrenchment I might well play NCP again. I really miss that feature for playing defense.

Way Cool

Fri Mar 11, 2011 3:41 pm

Pocus,
That would be way cool if you could slip out a smaller exe fix that turns on entrenchment as that would be nice to too how that improves gameplay and helps the defense.

Patch 1.07 official now released. It don't includes extensive modifications of historical data. Bohemond or others are welcome to post their own historical mod though.

Thanks for Update

Sun Mar 13, 2011 4:02 pm

Pocus,
Thanks for putting out an official 1.07 patch. I sure can't wait to see how entrenchment works in NCP as that will be a big improvement for gameplay and balance. I certainly hope that a further patch is forthcoming featuring Bohemond's extensive database corrections as that would really tie everything together better so we can enjoy NCP more than ever. :w00t:

Official patch should be more up to date than the one of this thread.

Yeah, this is all pretty confusing !
- the forum main page says 1.06
- the public beta ended with 1.07 RC 3
- the official patch says 1.07 RC 1

I/we wait since march for:
- a confirmation that 1.07 RC 1 shown is correct for the official patch
- the main forum page to be updated that it show 1.07 instead of 1.06
s. here and here.
Nothing happend 'til now, so I switched back to 1.06 :(

I'm disappointed that a game with such potential is treated this way
Anyway "hope dies last", so we'll see.

I just redownloaded the ptch from the forum main menu and installed it:

The patch available at http://www.ageod-forum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=164 is the latest 1.07 as of March 13, 2011 :)

Two issues about it:
1. The main forum still shows it as 1.06, where it is really 1.07 March 13, 2011
2. The system.opt file in Settings was not updated to display the correct version. Still indicates as RC3. This is a relatively new thing with patches, and was simply overlooked.
We'll fix the displayed version whenever I remember how to compile a patch. Hopefully Rafiki can update the forum displayed info :w00t:
