Either very short or very long Games

Sat May 09, 2009 8:11 am

Hi there new player here I bought American Civil War and Birth of America on the same day. May I say whoa steep learning curve but im slowly getting there. Anyway I personally find that the Battle scenarios being generally 8 turns long, some are more and some are less with the new patch etc are too short. 8 Turns is nothing at all. Then you get Huge campaigns going about 90 days or more. Can't they put a 30 turn battle or short campaign in there for some game play?? I know its meant to be historically accurate but I find big campaigns too long (for me personally) as I am not at the player level yet that I would feel good conducting a huge campaign on two fronts. Then again Shiloh for example I completed :thumbsup :o n turn 7 and I though (oh that was a tad short). Something in between would be great. 30 - 40 turns.

What do you think??

Hi and welcome aboard! :)

Hae you patched your AACW game??
The last official patch is 1.13b. You can get if from here
http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=12806&page=7

In it, and since quite some patches ago, there are some extra short and medium scenarios that can help you learn the game.
There are two 1 year long partial campaigns (East and West Theaters) each 24 tuns long and another Far west campaign somewhat longer but with less unit density.
Try them! They are a very good next step after Shiloh and the tutorials.
Besides there are shorter grand campings that start on 63 or 64.
But they have tons of units already on map so are not too good for new players.
Regards!

Your correct! Thanks for directing me to the 24 turn games. Nice. I'll have a go there. Cheers. :bonk: Anybody fancy doing a 48 turn campaign or a full length campaign but just on East or West fronts?? No pleasing me is there!! lol ;)

Howdy Dirty,
Welcome to the forum. Yes, the learning curve is extremely steep, but it's well worth it. I understand exactly what you're saying, and I found the best way was to start the game and go up as far as I wanted, learning along the way. Then I would start over again. But, smaller/more singular (like a complete campaign of either eastern or western theater) would have been nice.

Howdy Gray,
Makes sense. I would say that I understand, but my computer literacy is "turn on - use - turn off". My children do all the computer technical stuff for me.
But to be clear, though - I am not knocking the game. Heck, I was wishing that manpower (headcounts and mustering) was more clearly defined, but when it was explained to me (by you, perhaps) that the game engine didn't really work that way, but rather by power-rating, then I understood and moved on. The system is fantastic, it just takes some time to grasp and understand it (at least for me). In fact, once I have all the aspects of the game down pat (sometime in 2016) then I will be able to play a game without Athena beating the poop out of me!! And by then, we'll all be asking, "why can't all games be as good as an Ageod game?"

Ciao for now

Rob
