I have read the following regarding the confederate sharpshooters. They needed a special uniform so that they could be distinguished from normal troopers. As there were a lack of uniforms, some of them wore a badge, one od the possibilities was a red badge.

Read here, pags. 51 and 52 of Osprey's book about ACW sharpshooters

http://books.google.com/books?id=9aPg_W5-L9AC&pg=PT1&lpg=PP1&dq=osprey+intitle:sharpshooters&lr=&as_brr=0&as_pt=ALLTYPES

For example look here

http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/dgkeysearchdetail.cfm?trg=1&strucID=702675&imageID=813346&total=237&num=140&word=Tennessee&s=3¬word=&d=&c=&f=2&k=0&lWord=&lField=&sScope=&sLevel=&sLabel=&imgs=20&pos=142&e=w

This picture is taken from here

The confederate sharpshooter in the game is the following

It is different. So based in picture above and as there is already at least one unit with a badge (Inf6) I have modified it. The badge is red, besides the color of the hat and patch in the leg are different

To be used by whoever that likes it  Note the name is ..._Sharp2, so if you want to replace the original you have to rename to .._Sharp1, after backing up the original of course ;)

Edit: added the third graphic needed, thanks Picaron

nice, even if not used for sharpshooters it would give more variety in the infantry.

No idea if it can be used in the game, but after looking at this animation of the battle of Fredericksburg, I thought that it would be a good idea to do a pontoon or wagon-boat unit :D

Perhaps an alternative graphic for the engineers?

Edit: added the third graphic for the portraits folder, a bit bigger than the unit's one. Thanks Picaron

Edit2: even bigger and with more detail now

Oh.

After looking at the animated movie I thought that the pontonier ability could be an engineers' one. I do not know a lot of the game as you see :bonk: :D

Then yours it is a very good idea  I guess that marines and sailors did not manage pontoons?

In the game they do but I like the idea of a bridging train better.

OK Eugene Carr ;) I meant in real history.

I have searched in the Marines of the Civil War Osprey book and the word "pontoon" does not appear

http://books.google.com/books?id=asjHvO5JZhEC&printsec=frontcover&dq=intitle:marines+intitle:1861&lr=&as_drrb_is=q&as_minm_is=1&as_miny_is=2009&as_maxm_is=12&as_maxy_is=2009&as_brr=0&as_pt=ALLTYPES&ei=HmLPSfiqNKG2zQSLuuHPBw

Of course the word "boat" appears several times. But it is talking about when the marines disembark or go ashore using boats, not creating a bridge with them, that looks like an engineer task

There was some discussion regarding the black confederate troops.

http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=10808&highlight=native+louisiana

I have been playing a bit with the mil2 confederate graphic and after some testing got this result

Any interest in this?

Marines were then used on fleet and to guard naval installations on land. one battalion fought at Bull Run but it was really exceptional. US hadn't created at this time an amphibious Corps named Marines. this has come later.

I don't have yet changed this point in SVF because I'm looking for the certitude AI can cope with such a change. But it's definitly needed.

I made a new unit sort of a cross between the engineer and a supply wagon and gave it pontonier ability.
Would probably need some fine tuning by the experts.

S! EC

Just noticed you added a portrait file it should look even better!

Clovis has got the pontoons into SVF comparing his with mine it looks like my bridging train made it harder to cross the river :clown:

His helps you cross the river! :D I had cut the movement rate instead of increasing it.

Maybe i'm wrong. That's the last feature added. We'll see, but if you're right for history, I'm forced to think AI too... AI never waver at reducing movement of a whole army with a unique slow unit... ;)

Is there a historic reason for having marines and sailors for the Union but only marines for the confederates?

I have modified the confederate following a graphic in the monograph from Osprey, darker cap, lighter trousers and and double badge from the soulders, sorry I do not know the name in english. So this could be used as a marine and the original as a sailor?

CSA disn't got the same occasions... :D

@Clovis

I suppose the pontoons should slow the army until you come to a river.
I had movement at 80 thinking the 50% bonus at rivers would mean 120 at rivers and 80 otherwise. But I'm getting out of my depth now :)

Sharp Shooters uniform

Thu Apr 23, 2009 1:50 am

The Union army had a Green uniform for at least one sharp regiment.
The CSA had no special uniform.
The red badge you refer to is actually his blanket.
The blanket could be goverment or state issue.
Most men though carried a blanket that was made by
the women back home.
It had no set color and could even be plaid.
The only way to tell the confederate marksman
apart from his peers was the weapon that he carried.
I have learned much from going to reenactments.
My home town is where the Palmetto Sharpshooters came to be.
The regiment served in the Army of Northern Virgina CSA.

I like the marksman you made with the red blanket.
Keep up the good work !!!!!!

I may eventually try to edit unit graphics.
Going to rework the flag graphics first.

On discussion regarding the black confederate troops.
There are quite a few black confederate reenactors in my area.
Yes they were intergrated into the csa regiments.Black soldiers were in the same regiment as white soldiers. There numbers were smaller than union counterparts.
Large numbers enlisted with the union.
The union army had black regiments with white officers.
