Game displays error log when loading saved games

Tue Sep 02, 2008 3:33 am

Hey guys. First of all, loved the game until about 2 days ago. Progressing well and enjoying the game until I tried to load a saved game and received the message "A critical error occurred and the program will be terminated". I am running AACW on Windows XP, version 1.10d when the issue first occurred. Added patch 1.11 and still no change. I attached the main text log below.

Sorry for your trouble fmusc. Have you tried uninstalling and then installing the game, then directly the patch? It should not be necessary but can help.

Also, do you get an error before reaching main menu? If yes, can you disable sounds and see if it is better?

If you reach main menu, do you get an error each time you load a game, whatever the game? If there is only one game crashing, I would need to get it.

Thanks for the response Pocus. First, the main menu loads fine. No errors prior to the main menu screen. Second, the error occurs as soon as I click "Load saved game" or "Resume game". No, I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game. I really didn't want to have to lose the campaigns I am currently playing. Other than reinstalling the game, do you have any suggestions? I think ( ) the version I have initially is 1.04. I thought I saw a post about needing to upgrade to 1.05 and then later patches instead of straight from 1.04. But, I couldn't find the post again. Is this a possibility? Thanks again.

Ok, so the thing you can do is set aside your games and then reinstall. To do so, copy or move the saves directory of the game, then uninstall-reinstall-patch. Put back the saves directory. If it crashes, you have to go into this saves directory and displace one by one the games (or delete the unwanted one) until you know which one is crashing. If it is not that important, delete it, if it is important, send it to me, I'll check the issue: pmalacher@age-studio.com. Please add reference to this thread.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the response Pocus. I uninstalled the game and reinstalled the initial version (1.07). Still crashes. Deleted all saved games except two I was very involved with. Deleting/removing one or the other then trying to load still caused crash. Installed patch to 1.11 and tried above. Still crashes. So, I sucked it up and deleted all saved games, uninstalled program, reinstalled the game then the patch, started new game saved and load went fine. Played yesterday with only one crash (different though, crashed during supply phase). I'll let you know if this ultimately solved my problem. Thanks again.

If your memory is a bit tight, the game can crash semi randomly during processes which are very demanding, as in supply... but for the rest, I did not saw a crash in the supply phase since quite some months, and this is a portion of the code which is used every turn by all players... So this is weird.

My memory shouldn't be an issue for this game (2GB RAM, 50GB free hard drive space, Intel Pent 4 processor). No good idea what is going on. Is there a limit to the number of saved games I can have? Is it possible the program can't process adequately after X number of saves? As you can see, I'm not a progammer :D .

No, the number of saves can at most slow your access to the load game window, but that is all.

Same Problem

Fri Sep 04, 2009 6:17 am

Hi, I've been looking through many of your Forum Threads trying to find the problem I'm having. This is it or very close to it.

I'm operating with Vista, 3GB DDR2, I've installed AACW removing the \ProgramFiles and I'm having this problem still. I can launch the game ok. I've played this game about 10 times now, meaning I play it and the error occurs requiring a reinstall, reinstalled 10 times which fixes the problem temporarily but not permanently.

I will get somewhere around half a year to two years into the game when during the turn process the game auto saves and crashes during the auto save. It seems to be some conflict with the operating system if i remember the error screen right.
I will then relaunch the game, which works ok. I get to the main menu and click on the "Load" or "Load Game" button. The same crash that occurred during the game now occurs and I'm unable to open the Load Game List.
I've reinstalled, using the tip suggesting to remove the "ProgramFiles" portion for the game folder on install. This doesn't fix the problem. I love your game, but with this error its a huge tease. Maybe I'll buy a new computer with xp and maybe that will fix the problem :bonk: but I'd certainly like a cheaper solution.
Thanks for any help you can give me!!!!!!!!

Can you confirm from your "Log" file that you are suffering the same error please?

Thats something you'll have to tell me how to do. For right now I'm trying the others suggestions, disabling UAC while playing, and playing with the saved games files. I'll play again and see if it works.

Check your AACW\Logs directory and post the content of the !MainLog file in there.
The error should be on one of the last lines of that file. ;)

Having the Same problem- Crashes when I hit "Load Game"

Thu Oct 29, 2009 12:39 am

Sorry if I missed the fix, but I have spent days reading and working on this problem. I am running XP with 2 GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9700 (driver is updated). This game always worked fine on this computer until recently. I love this game, but I can't enjoy it now. I really hope there is a fix for this.

I modified the options to use less physical memory and redeuced the texture size. After I did this, the game will not even load to the menu screen. I have also reinstalled and added the 1.15 patch 4 times and still the same problem. Below is the log message. Thanks for your time.

Install the game on another place, but not in C:\Program Files\

The message indicate that your files become locked by Windows, for a reason unknown. On our end, we have not even touched the file system since several months at least.
