Ready for 1st campaign but have some ?

Wed Apr 16, 2008 10:58 pm

After several false starts I finally feel like I am in a position to play the full campaign game. I've been beating most of the scenarios on hard.

1) Is the Union AI better than the CSA AI?
I read that the Union AI doesn't do much naval invasions so I am guessing that the AI plays better as the CSA.

2) AI Settings?
I am using hard, +3 activation, above average FOG advantage to AI, standard aggression, and historical player attrition. Are these good settings.

3) What AI aggression settings should I use?
On some threads I am reading that low aggression is the best.

Personal Choices

these are all personal options....it all depends on what your game style is.....you can stack the deck against yourself and just get hammered until you figure out the best way to defend then give the AI all the help it can get.....if your trying to feel your way around the game even it out or give yourself some advantages.....personally i think the USA AI is bit harder to play against because it does a good job of attacking and keeping you on your toes (provided you dont set the AI to passive or low aggression) the AI as the confederates i think doesnt do a very good job at defending the strong points it needs to in order to keep the union armies at bay....plus the advantages the union has over the south makes it more of a challenge if you stack the deck against yourself and learn the hard way. "sink or swim" as my father would always say.

I dont know exactly about difference in AI, i dont play a lot with it, just use it for some tests. Several player threads tell tricks to beat AI in a few months!!!...

However, I believe yes low aggresion performs better, I believe it plays more as an real human does.

I.e. no one (once a bit experienced) launches his army against a full trenched enemy unless 2-1 minimum or 3-1 better. AI on aggresive (or normal) does attack and loses 9000 vs 2000 are habitual.

I believe giving too much bonus to the AI is not ok...

If you play CSA, giving 1 bonus level on activation and difficulty turns all USA 3-1-1 into 5-1-1s--- is a bit unrealistic and loses the flavour of no activation, especially with the 3*.

Playing USA, it has nearly no effect (in comparison) as CSA leaders are "always" activated.

Finally Too much FOG of WAR makes the AI too bold, as he discovers too much FALSE-easy targets. Perhaps a +1 bonus can be the best.
