ATI graphics issues not resolved?

Thu Mar 27, 2008 11:22 pm

Hi,

I posted a while back about issues with BoA and ATi x1950 problems - lockups, black screens, render errors etc as seen on here from other users. Solutions offered had some benefits but didn't fully resolve the issues. Now I want to try AACW but was told the engine was basically the same so am concerned that - even trying Omega drivers - my issues on BoA weren't resolved fully.

Having read some posts here my questions are - and they're not digs - how can the drivers/graphics cards still be blamed for problems when no other game I play has these problems? It must be an issue with the way these AGEOD games are written as far as I can tell. Surely saying that ATI cards/drivers may not work is losing you lots if potenttial custom? Is the answer basically that any new(ish) system may have real problems running these games?

Why can other games for example run perfectly well yet yours don't appear to? I run FPSs, Paradox games, Matrix games etc etc and all run for hours with no issues.

Like I say not a dig as such but it's frustrating that as far as I can tell I'm running a perfectly sound system yet it is being blamed for such issues/potential issues. Basically i'm not wiling to fork out £30 or so for AACW or Napoleons Campaigns when faced with the likelihood they won't work.

Cheers

Hi
Sorry to hear your problems. Fortunately, its not a generic ATI problem.
I can play all AGEOD games with my ATI card. Much better with some drivers (older) than others (newer).
But for the good and the bad, PC don't work like consoles. They are not always the same. There are a huge numbers of graphics cards/drivers/hardware setup/programs combinations.
And on some of them them don't work as they should. :p leure:
At least, AGEOD publish demos of all his games, so checking compatibility issues is easy: download the demo and see if its work OK.
You can find the demos links on the forums main page,
Regards!

Hi - yeah understand that. I will try the demo, and i'll also try somethign else as i'm mystifired as to why this doesn't work. Got an old Nvidia 6600gt that I'm going to install if ACW doesn't work - just out of curiosity!

Thanks

Hi Drambuie,

I have a Sapphire ATI 1950 Pro graphics card also. I never had a problem with running the AACW. I also tried the demo version of NCP once, and it was also working without any problems.

I think your problem has nothing to do with the ATI chipset or the drivers. It can be a manufacturer fault also (a slight chance but yes, i heard about similar issues before).

Have you tried the demo versions of AACW and NCP? I strongly recommend that like Arsan.

Hi,

Yeah it is a weird one - this is the text from the main log file when trying the ACW demo - tried turning off high memory, textures to minimum. What happens is screen goes black and then hear a fan fire up and stop - presumably the graphics card resetting or something - screen stays black and have to alt tab out. Bizarre.

Guess i'll try my old 6600gt and see if that works any better

Thanks for all the info though

Well ..... installed my old 6600gt with omega drivers and the demo plays through fine. One thing was strange - got sound glitches and music 'sticking' - have downloaded an update of my onboard sound drivers tgo see of that is the issue. But looks like I may get to play ACW after all!

So - apologies for getting grumpy about my 1950pro but it appears something wasn't quite right - lord knows what as like I say it tends to be perfectly ok for tother games. Oh well :)
