Final Score my PBEMs

Wed Dec 05, 2007 8:59 am

Game 1 - Wilhammer (USA) v Me (CSA). Played under version 1.01-1.04. Wilhammer resigns in Early March 1863, although the game was still very much in play. I did have a corps of his besieged at Manassas at the time though. Losses look suprisingly low in retrospect. Not sure the VPs/turn display is correct, as this is a 1.04 game loaded in 1.07 for the screenshot.

Game 2 - Denisonh (USA) v Me (CSA). Played under version 1.04. Denison resigns in early September 1864, my longest game. Britian and France declare war.

Game 3 - Me (USA) v Jabberwock (CSA). Played under version 1.05. Jabberwock resigns in late January 1862. Screenshot from CSA side.

PBEM is a Blast

Wed Dec 05, 2007 1:49 pm

I jumped right into playing PBEM and never played against the AI. My first PBEM ended in a "draw" as the game file got corrupted.

My second PBEM was against Runyan and truly an "educational" experience. I am a much improved player after getting "schooled", one of the reasons I continued the game into 1864 knowing it was already a lost cause. I lost but enjoyed the game, which is the point I beleive.

I do not think I could have learned nearly as much agains the AI or enjoyed it as much.

I like to think I have improved my play since, having the two PBEM following resulting in my opponents conceeding before the end of 1862.

I would have liked to continue the game with Runyan into 1865, but have only enough time to manage one PBEM turn a day at most.

Harvey, if you like we can play again once you get back to the states. By the way, your river stranglehold on Tenessee was just about to work. I was out of supply at Nashville, and was going to have to try to break the Army of the Tennessee out next turn.

Cory, I think that I would of a mind for a rematch using the leader mod or better yet the Coming Fury mod. The CF mod really intrigues me as to the emphasis on getting early war piece to reflect the actual conditions.

Fine with me. The guy who is working on the leader mod really knows his stuff.

I am not certain our competition was meant to be more than a trial balloon and the working out of bugs at that time.

Have you mentioned elsewhere the severe drubbing I gave you in BoA?

You should of given up on that one, or the game engine should of. You had two commands left, both nearly wiped out, and the map covered in Lobsters.

You are, if anything, tenacious.

Also, a worthy opponent - no better way to learn a game that to take on a champion!

I too was clearly "schooled". In our short game, Runyan showed me aspects of AACW that I had never considered playing against the AI. I'm currently reading his Strategy 101 thread, and realizing that I hadn't figured out all of what he had done to me (or let me do to myself). Kudos!

I have to say it was exhausting. I had to double (sometimes triple) check everything every turn. I knew I would pay severely for any mistakes. Thank you runyan for a very challenging war.

The guy who is working on the leader mod really knows his stuff.
