Next turn.

Little change to the above. Buell&Co move to Louisville. Sumner back to Rolla. Dahlgren goes to beat up on the rebel fleet, while Banks SRed to Monroe.

I see you're learning the lesson that the Union eventually figured out: frontal attacks on entrenched enemy positions are costly and far from successful.

Well, let's just say I paid attention this time :) More of a Soviet battle operations guy myself. (An avalanche of tanks supported by a storm of artillery fire.)

In some of our battles, I've had over 400 guns. I love guns....

The move in the east mentioned above is under way. And Grant called off his move when a Corps showed up. oh well.

The only things of interest otherwise:

There is a Corp sized formation in the Keys. It could go to Pickens, NO, maybe even Vicksburg. Maybe Texas. Or land at that fort near NO then go overland......

The coming campaign is designed to bleed the Southern replacement pool. Unless the power rankings are really in my favor, conservative or probe attacks will be the staple.

By thrusting at Nashville, I'm hoping for one of two things. Weaken the line in front of Grant. Or pull out of Kentucky. The force in Lexington can't go north very far with the river blocked. And if Nashville falls, they won't be going very far south either once the river is blocked.

Or Pope could just get his sorry butt handed to him.

One can only hope that these inane penalties for not attacking, (really, papers scream over no 1862 offensive? Not in any history I ever read. And what, the invasion of Texas and Florida wasn't an offensive??), are removed in the hoped for AACW 2......

Not for nothin'... But that was because there was the Peninsular Campaign, everything leading to 2nd Manassas & Chantilly and finally, Fredericksburg. ;)

There are events that this is tied to in game.

Great AAR, btw. You two have a great game going.

Great fun to read whats happening, tend to agree about papers. But I guess there has to be a penalty for not attacking, perhaps linked to places taken less places lost? Rather than casualties.

The penalty are to push the Union player to attack in the historical main theater : Virginia. Otherwise any clever Union player would just sit tight and just speed up the Anaconda process, landing elsewhere and creating secondary fronts... It makes sense, it is one of the few tools to prevent 1862 warfare in Virginia being like 1916 western front

Well, if you're going to force history on one side, you should do the same for the other.

At least in my view. See, in one of our games, I lost Pittsburg, Cincy, and a couple of others. Does anyone really think that Northern papers would be howling about Richmond when Confederate armies are on their way to New York City?

Doesn't keep me from playing though.
