Based on these rankings, the bracket has been filled out as follows:

As summarized by Ace:

Left side of the draw:
Jim_NC (CSA) - Liberty Bell (USA) (host FelixZ)
Seraphim (USA) (in place of Highlandcharge) - CitizenX (CSA) (host Lindi)

Right side of the draw:
Guru94 (CSA) - Havi (USA) (host Ace)
Moni Kerr (USA) - Pgr (CSA) (host Skibear)

The match for this round is the July 1861 campaign for a duration of 24 turns (1 year). Guru94, Jim-NC, Moni kerr, and Seraphim (lucky him) have the right to choose the side they want to play. The selection should be made carefully.

You will not be competing directly against the man you are playing, but rather against the man who choose your nation on your side of the bracket. The best USA and CSA player on each side of the bracket will advance to the next round.

VP will be the basis for advancement, with a NM victory giving a bonus. The NM bonus will be 2000+(100*number of turns remaining). This will prevent an early NM victory from being at an unfair disadvantage for VP against a game that went the full 24 turns.

The Quarter Final round will use the same general rules, with FelixZ, Ace, Lindi, and Skibear having the privilege of picking their side. The QF campaign is still being determined.

Finally, I'd like to thank the Ace for stepping in as deputy tournament director and keeping us all on track.

To repeat from before:
Hosting notes
1: Create a tournament directory in the Saves file and use the following naming procedure: Pool X- Player(USA)-Player(CSA) (example: Pool A-Ace(USA)-Grey Fox(CSA).hst)
2: Zip the Hst file and send it to both players.
3: Players should enter orders and save, but DO NOT PROCESS THE TURN. Ord files are zipped and e-mailed to the host.
4: Host processes the turn and sends the new Hst file to the players.

This is what I know:

Guru94 has chosen CSA (I am hosting his game), and Seraphim has chosen USA.

Will there be a bonus for NM victory based on the number of turns before the scenario end? After all, it is not the same winning on turn 10, and on turn 23. You would be deprived of all those poitns you would earn in the turns not played out.

Maybe, the better reward for NM victory would be 1000 points + 100*(24-number of the turn in which NM was achieved). So, for example, if the NM victory is won on the 14th turn, you would get 2000 points bonus (the same as you suggested), if it is achieved later, you would get less.

You are a bit early with the side choosing for the 3rd round :)

I would like to know will the 3rd round be played with the duration of 24 turns or 48 turns, or more. I am pro idea of increasing scenario durations as the tournament moves on...

Oh, A quick requests to hosts.... Could you please post a game summery reply immediately with the match name, players, and VP updates? The idea is that you will update the post every 6 turns with the current information...and that way we can all keep referring back to one spot for one match.

(Hopefully this will make things simpler than the last round)

Round 2 Guru94 CSA vs Havi USA

The players have played out 6 turns (they are presently at trn 7), so time for a quick report.

Most of the initial fighting can be described as low intensity probing, with some partisans and white unioinist raised to harras enemy territories. CSA has invaded Maryland, but it was more of a probe than an invasion, with Jackson brigade incursion to Baltimore easily repulsed. However, Harper's Ferry and Fredericktown are firmly in CSA hands. USA has in response captured Fallmouth, so the battle lines are more or less familiar to us all.
Guru has tried some innovative strategies in the West, landing amphibiously at Louisville, Ky with Polk. Ky is still closed, we 'll see what will be the Union response. I wonder what would be KY goverment response in RL had Polk invaded Louisville after Camp Dick Robinson. I think they would immediately side with the Federal government, but in a game like this it is sometimes hard to forsee all possible player movememnts and responses. Guru94 has decided for some unconventional monetary decisions, given the shortage of CSA WS and the duration of the scenario, he has opted out of using them. Time will tell if his decision was right or not. In MO there has been little change with StLouis firmly in Union hands and the rest in CSA hands.

US figures:
183 VP(+40/trn), 82 NM, 9400 casualties

CSA figures:
CSA 305 VP (+52/trn), 112 NM, 11400 casualties

CSA is favorite to have more points at the end of this match, but will Guru94 have more CSA points than Pgr, it remains to be seen.

I had a patch upgrade fail, and have to re-patch my game back upto 1.04. What is the list of patches I need to apply?

I think it's 1.00 download, then 1.03, then 1.04 rc1. Am I missing a spare patch somewhere?

@ Jim-NC: I think that is the correct order. Did you already try to install it this way?

@ all: How is round 2 going, are there any news? I am really curious if I have good chances with my current VP´s to get into the next round ;)

I figured it out. The patch was trying to install in the wrong location (1 level too deep) - not sure how I did that. Liberty Bell and I have just started as a result of this oops.

I have updated the top of the Thread with the info Ace provided on the game he is hosting. Other hosts, please provide a turn 6 update when your games reach that point.

Also, you will note a slight change to how we will be calculating the NM VP bonus. In addition to the 2000 points, there is a turn sensitive bonus. The sooner a NM victory is achieved, the more bonus VP will be awarded.

Late Oct 61. Moni Kerr USA (NM 87 VP 259) vs PGR CSA (NM 103 VP 273)

Much jockeying for position and some small skirmishes but no objectives change hands yet. USA making progress in MO and Virginia while KY is for the Rebels with Louisville besieged & breached by AS Johnson but still withholding against assault.

Just to clarify, will the end of the game be at the beginning of turn 25 (with 24 turns played out), or at the beginning of turn 24?

The idea for 24 turns was prompted by the West scenario which ended with a Victory screen at the beginning of the scenarios Turn 25.

Ace's clarification that the game ends at the beginning of turn 25 is correct.

25th turn will be Late July 62. West scenario (24 turns) started Late Feb 62 and ended L Feb 63 (victory screen).

Pgr's request for interim results every 6 turns - L Oct 61; L Jan 62; L Apr 62.

So in fact Moni Kerr - Pgr match report was after 5 turns played, not after 6 turns. It would be nice to post results after 6 turns played out so others can keep track.

BTW, I would like to recommend Guru94 for fair play reward, and for behaving like a real Southern gentleman. :hat:

in their 2nd round match, Havi promoted Butler to Army command after failing to take Mannassas and forgot that he now bypasses little Mac himself for the Army command post. The result was -20 NM and -146 VP penalty. Since that stupid sloppy error would pretty much decide this match and the match between Moni Kerr and Pgr, Guru agreed to rerun the turn without promoting Butler (after all noone in sane mind would intentionally upset the nation so much because of Butler :bonk: .

So Guru, from me.

Mini report on the Guru - Havi match.

After initial incursions to Kentucky and Maryland, CSA has decided to retreat to familiar lines. In the West Guru formed an Army in Charleston, MO. Grant tried to attack it from Cairo, across the Mississippi, but was easily repulsed. Similarly, in Virginia, CSA decided to hold Manassas, and to defend any incursion on its flanks with swift counterattacks. US tried to flank the position in Fallmouth and in the Valley, but it was soundly beaten and pushed back. Also, direct assault on Manassas itself was beaten as well. I have general feeling that Guru is clearly more experienced player of the two. CSA forces are dominating on all battlefields. But, since there are few decisive battles with lost elements, it is not shown on the VP tally. Also, national resilience and will to fight is playing its role. If there was no national resilience (free NM for the US, they would be now well below 80 NM mark).

I would also like to commend Havi on the fantastic turn rate, never more than a day to return his orders.

One little correction:

Grant did not attack Charleston from Cairo across the Mississippi, because the Confederate river fleet was blocking the harbor. He took the railway from Cairo to St. Louis and marched from there down the western side of the Mississippi with his 2 divisions to meet Johnston at Charleston. Meanwhile Johnston got reinforced just in time by Braggs Division, who used the Confederate river fleet to execute this fast maneuvre. :)
