However, here is an advice:
the game has a lot of turns and if you want to see the end or at least make it into 1890's your greatest concern is to get the game going at all. It is not the game mechanics that you should be concerned of in the first months of your common journey but the group of players. Decisions ingame should be taking relations offgame into account.
Playing a long game means that there are very little decisions that are fatal gamewise, but a lot of decisions have the potential of collapse offgame.

However, you will obligate to agree with any propositon of peace, if all your territory would be occupied and, it is necessary to say, that half of Bavaria is occupied already by Prussia and Baden has a little chance to hold for long against French Army. It will not require to maintain the whole multy-month or even multy-year game, but, playing 5-6 turns for minor you could decide if you want to play, leading, for example, Greece, Argentine or Norway in further campaign.

Po Valley is cleared from Austrians!
Summer Sardinian campaign seems as successfull as winter operation at Lombardia. Duke Fernando di Savoy, after liberating the South Tirole, arrived to Venice which was covered twice larger forces of his "old friend", field-marshal Radetsky. Fernando came to well fortified enemie's positions near Treviso without any intention to waste Italian blood at desperate attacks. He has prepared to artillery bombardment and deliberate assault instead.
There were about 90 thousands men and 400 artillery guns in Sardinian Army and 170 thousand with 600 cannons opposite them. Despite this grim figures, assault has an absolute success! Field fortifications were ruined and taken by assault of guard corps. All counter-attacks of Austrian forces were defeated. Also, Radetsky considered the possibilty of arriving our French allies to his left flank. Field-marshal ordered to retreat to the left shore of Tagliamento-river. His losses achive 45 thousands of men. Sardinian losses are 12 thousands killed and wounded in action.
Venice is besieged and beautifull Po Valley is free from foreign occupation once and forever!

We also decided to allow them to control the second country to increase the interest in the game of some minors (and players whose countries are not in Europe). This is a controversial decision, not all players support it. But in this way, we have Switzerland - the United States and also Portugal - Denmark controlled by only one player. Let's see what this leads to.

Yes I played a couple of MP games a long time ago, it was a lot of fun, but as you can imagine life commitments eventually would get into the way for most people. However, we were playing 1 turn a day. It was faster, but it was also a larger commitment.
