AACW Updated Commanders List (Union & CSA)

Mon Mar 09, 2009 9:33 pm

This list is updated as of the 1.13b version. A big thanks to Gray who pointed out the database files which allowed me to finish the last portion of this project very quickly. A few notes:

1. If the general is automatically promoted, the date will appear above the corresponding rank. If there is no date, his promotion is contingent upon performance (some differences from the original document are that WHL Wallace is not promoted, it is Lew Wallace, and Phil Kearny does not auto promote at all).

2. As I don't know how to read the program files, the location in which the unit enters is listed from several test campaigns I ran and/or taken from the PDF that comes in the docs folder.

3. For the bios I primarily used Wikipedia (thanks to enf91's suggestion in the Generals forum). I realize this is not the absolute authority for historical information, but it is the easiest place to find consolidated info. There were a handful of generals for whom I couldn't locate any info (not for lack of trying).

4. The list is sorted by arrival date, then by rank, then by seniority.

5. Naval commanders are listed at the end of the file.

6. If you notice any inconsistencies or outright errors, please let me know and I'll correct them.

I'll begin work on the CSA document after I finish the campaign I'm in, and I'll post that when complete. Hopefully this will be somewhat useful to those playing the Union. At the very least its a quick way to get some historical info on a lesser known general.

Edit: Ask and ye shall receive. The List of Confederate Commanders is now attached. All above bullet points still apply.

Thanks so much for this, Burns!

I have been thinking about doing this myself for a long time, but was daunted by the amount of work required.

I think I'll be shamelessly exploiting company resources at work tomorrow. I want ahard copy. In color.

CSA Version

Tue Mar 10, 2009 4:26 pm

Thanks all for your kind words! While I thought the CSA version would take some time, I'm flying through it right now (It helps to have the format already in place from the Union file and now I know where to get the promotion info so I don't have to play scenarios to target specific generals for promotions!). My only concern at this point is that I've not played the CSA side very far in this game, so I'm not certain of what generals are auto-promoted. I recall reading in the forum (Soundoff/Banks AAR?) that Thomas Jackson and James Longstreet are auto promoted (unless already promoted) by a certain date. If some of the fine CSA players could assist me with any info it would be appreciated. I don't necessarily need the exact date, I can look for that, but it will help to know which generals to look out for.

L. Rousseau

Tue Mar 10, 2009 7:54 pm

Gray_Lensman wrote:L. Rousseau:

Though your information is derived straight from the database files, L. Rousseau is currently incorrect. In a near future update he will be:

Date: 1862/06/30
Initial Rank: 1-star
Seniority: 91
Promotable: No
Combat Values: 3/1/1
Abilities: None
Enters: Joins Don Carlos Buell command in July 1862
Special comments: None

According to my historical sources (unless someone can dispute it), he was never a Corps commander, hence the change to a 1-star

Gray - Thanks, I've made the update on the sheet, and I'll post the updated version when your patch/update is released.

Posting this reply just to update the thread. I've edited the first entry to now include the CSA commanders list.

Very nice! Particularly usefull when trying to remember those two Union generals who start with the generic 3-1-1 ratings but actually promote to better ratings (only two guys in the game like that.)

Great work.

Ironically, given Sarkus post, I will use it to avoid giving too much exposure to those CSA generals who lose rankings (or gain dispirited leader attribute) as they get promoted.

Thanks. Great work. Now I can throw away my old scrap of paper which is headed: CSA generals not to promote as this fine list has them all.

one note though: CSA generals Van Dorn and Breckinridge and USA generals Porter, Fremont, and Sickles "are not removed anymore by event from the game" as of patch 1.05d readme file.

thanks again for your great work.

Thanks BI, I'll update that on the sheets. Gray is releasing an update in the near future which will also change the Union General L. Rousseau. I'll provide both updated lists at that time. I didn't think to read through the readme from the updates.

To my knowledge, general stats are the same in last patch as they were in 1.13

OK Ace!

Hi Grey,

Can you give me files AACW confederate & Unions.doc or .txt?

I tried to join you by Mp to explain the reason but it is not possible.

Hi Schluiffen! ;)

If you push the F9 key you will see the objetives cities.

Anyway, take a look at this link, #8 post.

That's because it's a missing-link :mdr:
