The Animated Battle Screen

Tue Jul 29, 2008 12:10 pm

I am still confused about interpreting the ongoing animation screen during a battle in progress. I am talking about the calibrated ring that displays varying amounts of red and green as the battle plays out.

I have heard it said that green is good and red is bad. Doesn't seem to be the case, though, if you watch it. Sometimes, results are counter to the amount of color shown.

I know to watch the VP and Morale areas during battles. That is a reliable indicator. But, what about the "ring"? What is the correct way to read that thing?????

the more ammount of green in the ring usually indicates that the battle is going well yes! the more red there is the more likely you are to be subjected to heavy loses in a battle and loss of equipment, however it is a rough guide to how well your doing in regards to those factors of how many men you have lost in battle compared to the enemy, just because you are marginally in the green (especially if you are an attacking force) doesnt nessesarilly mean that you will win the battle strategically.

a small note aswell that came to my mind was watch your Assault, Offencive and Defencive stances when conducting a battle as it could screw a few things up in the way of shifting the green and red bars in battle.

also im sure you know that supply and entrenchment levels etc help out with the battle outcome too :)

If this is similar to WiA then the more green means that more of your regiments are committed and the more red the less. If you have bigger regiments then the enemy(ie..more troops) you might not see more green but still win the battle. I think I am right in this. :innocent:

Technically, the ratio of green to red indicates the number of (unrouted) elements that you (green) and the enemy (red) have committed to the battle. The color ratio does not take into account other factors such as experience, leader bonuses, combat events, etc., so it's possible to lose even with much more green than red showing.

Unit experience...I keep forgetting that that too factors into the battles.

To me it goes past so fast that I miss what is going on. I should pay more attention.

In all honesty, in the end does it really matter? You CAN slow down the battle progress in the options...but IMO the results screen tells you everything that went on during the battle. Everything you need to know is right there. And if you are playing PBEM and aren't hosting, you'll never see the battle animation anyway. If you had control over the battle while the animation was progressing, I would understand some frustration at not knowing what is happening...but since the results are explained after the no longer than 10-second delay, I do not think it is something worth getting excited over. :siffle:

can the south view the detailed battle screen (just the result, not the battle itself)? if so, how?

You mean on a PBEM game where the CSA player is not the host??
Yes he can. He can double click on the battle result message (in red) on the log, and the battle report window will pop up.
Just like in single player

All the red messages on the log will show a pop up window if you double click in them: events, new units roosters, battle reports...
