Thanx for the pics Grey. Now imagine this, scrolling down those pics, then seeing the eagles as the end music is playing from Saving Private Ryan is going. Kinda got my attention.

Nice pics Grey, was there in 88. Really like the shot looking down the Cumberland River. Can almost visualize the gunboats heading towards the battery.

Didn't know they had bald eagles in Tenn. Nice to see they've spread so far. One of the big sucesses of the Endangered Species Act - in the 1960s there were maybe a few thousand left in the whole country, now they're pests.

Very interesting!!!! I wasn't able to make it to Fort Donelson on my Shiloh trip a few years ago, so these pics do a great job of showing me what I've missed! The view downriver from the Upper Battery really allows you to picture the scene as "Pook's Turtles" rounded the bend and moved slowly into range!

Those are excellent pictures! Looking down the river at the densely wooded banks, it makes you realise how inaccessable some of the countryside must have been back then, and why control of rivers and roads was so important.
