Poll. New engine first game.

Fri Feb 02, 2018 5:12 pm

We know nothing of which game Ageod will develop using the new engine or when will it come. Which will be your preference? You may choose only one option.

I voted for WWII, Pacific War.

I'd say WW2 Europe. I know it's been done to death, but it's the best audience grabber :) Plus, I'd love to see an AGEOD style game with proper air modeling.

i voted for recreating topic know from one of the ageod games.
I would point PON that was great yet it it just required polishing.
With new, more detailed map, new engine it could be a great game.

Alternativelly i would say thah ageos is great in recreating medium term conflicts that are full of fascinationg history.

Like WIA, Civil War or Punic Wars.

Most recently Wars of Napolean - a great game with great concept that is just suffering from engine flaws and AI having to much to handle.

If you guys could create a modern, historicaly accurate version of so called "mini europa universalis" games it would be great.
Monthly turn based, multiplayer games covering short "changing moments " of history

Like 1789-1815 or 1853-1882, or 1667-1714, or 1740-1763
or chinnease civil wars

sorry i guess i speak to much ....

Since I had doubts about the old engine doing Wars of Napoleon I never purchased it. So my vote is for Wars of Napoleon 2.

Tough choice though because a new area like East Asia.... Rise of the Middle Kingdom or Sengoku Jidai would be my dream games.

A few things we do know from what Pocus posted:

Re: So.... When? When is the game comming?

[...] For the other new game with the Archon engine, that will be in 2018. I hope that marketing will soon allow us to tell you more about this.

The new engine has no common roots at all with the old AGE engine indeed. It is a much improved version of the Battle Academy II engine, used for turn based, regions based games. It natively uses 3D and is very fast.

PON2 is not considered at this time, because PON2 is like trying to make a detailed WW2 game right with the first game of your new engine. You would most probably fail.

The first game won't have gunpowder. And that's an information. Now I don't read the future and probably all subjects can be considered for games to follow the first.

Hmm, thats an interesting sentence

Phill seems to be very much in to Sci- Fi - but i wonder if that is really good buisnes.

Maybe some book based world.

But from the buisnes perspective it seems to me that maybe, east asia theme would be interesting.
With all the customers in Korea, China, Japan

But they kind of used gunpowder very early

I voted for a "niche wargame".
What about wars of Alexander the Great? Or feudal Japan, without the gunpowder issue? :niark:

Hey, perhaps in the future, there will be only lasers, masers, micro-wave guns and mass drivers. So no gunpowder either ;)

Even better: SciFi with longbows & axes.

Joe Haldeman, The Forever War (1974).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forever_War

Engaging in combat thousands of light years away from Earth, Mandella and his soldiers need to resort to medieval weapons in order to fight inside a stasis field which neutralizes all electromagnetic radiation in anything not covered with a protective coating.

Above all - no gunpowder.

I would like to see a wargame centered on the 16th century struggle between the Christian powers (Spain, Austrian Habsburgs, Hungary, Venice, Pope etc.) and the Muslim powers (Ottoman empire, Mamluks, North African principalities).

Rarely done, very colorful and varied, and right in the middle of the gunpowder military revolution...

Niche topics about civil wars in old engine. More popular civil wars could be in new engine. Although I think old engine capable for many things. ! :siffle: Miguel's Espana and Andatiep's RUS.

Voted other....

Well my choices are the following -

a) reboot PON and WoN - possibly the best games in Ageod's repertoire
b) Maybe a reboot of the excellent Alea Acta Est series, possibly with a Grand Campaign spanning Rome's ascension to power (I'm being greedy I know coz it would take something like a 100 to 150 years of campaigning)
c) Wars of the Diadochi - if one stretches the map to Italy and to India, one can get dozens of factions
d) reboot of RUS
e) Revolutionary Wars (maybe going on to Napoleanic Wars)

Hehe, if you're going Sci Fi go for Battletech :)

I'd like Ageod to lean more towards empire building no matter what era. So more grand strategy than operational art. Even if that does mean one month turns. But with a strong historical focus.

I think, empire building is why Paradox games, Total War games plus Civilzation are the most popular "historical" strategy games.

To End All Wars is a real favorite but it needs so much polishing to be all it can be. What a great opportunity to do that and implement the new engine. But wait, I've been an analyst/developer of several very large defense systems in a past life and there can be so many pitfalls and stumbles. On second thought yes, go build something else. When you have it right then come back and do CWIII and TEAW. :)

I chose civil war 3, but if fantasy was Lord of the Rings, that would be my first. I also regret know I did not chose crusades. :bonk:

I'd really like to see PON2, but since that's off the table, a new setting would be good - Three Kingdoms period is popular right now with the new Total War game set there. Or a Sengoku game.

The Habsburg-Ottoman wars. Pretty much a horror in terms of research, but a really great and very colorfull topic that has not been embraced by wargamers so far.

Warhammer 40k for other audience?

I would likely play some Polish scenario or game if Ageod would make it.
Be it vs. Ottomans, Habsburgs, Russians or Swedish

But it would require tons of work. Every Ageod game have most Polish or Russian names misspelled. Brr.

Example: the city of PRZEMYSL (in fact Przemyśl) mostly spelled Przesmyl or worst.
Look at Revolution Under Siege, Napoleon's Campaigns, Rise Of Prussia, Pride of Nations, To End All Wars

Warhammer 40k is just fine !
