Happy New Year. I hope that everyone is having a great Hogmany. Remember, here in Scotland, the celebration lasts two days!

The very best to you all in 2013

Tue Jan 01, 2013 6:37 pm

All the best to my fellow forumites and I wish great prosperity to AGEOD in the coming year.
May the new fellowship with Slitherine and Co. bring you vast riches and produce many games for your loyal followers to enrich you.

I received a copy of The Man Who Saved the Union - Ulysses Grant in War and Peace by H. W. Brands for Christmas, which I am enjoying very much in case anyone is looking for something to read in 2013.

Regards.

Some days ago Santa Claus left me beside the Christmas tree a copy of Gore Vidal's Lincoln, although I have not yet begun to read it because I'm waiting to see the Spielberg's Lincoln, the Friday January 18th.

Regards.

‘Everything is very simple in War, but the simplest thing is difficult. These difficulties accumulate and produce a friction which no man can imagine exactly who has not seen War . . . in War, through the influence of an infinity of petty circumstances, which cannot properly be described on paper, things disappoint us, and we fall short of the mark.‘

Since you mentioned it, I might as well have another dram. Here, in Scotland, New Years is bigger than Christmas. Believe it or not, it was not until 1958 that Christmas was made a holiday in Scotland.
