I've just registered and I was wondering why I could not access my own profile

Now I know why ! :D

It is sad you have had to take such a restrictive move to defend from spammers but I fully understand and accept the consequences.

I netherless think that you could just allow newcomers to access a specific portion of their own profile, the one where you can set your own privacy rules.

Best regards, Amadeus

I agree, but AFAIK, I'm afraid the settings only allow for an "all-or-nothing" distinction.

Though, if anyone has concerns regarding their privacy settings, PM me, and we'll look into it :)

I register here recently and was also very surprised that I could not edit my account, I even sent a message by mail, with this issue, but now I understood. Of course, you can restrict and 5-7 posts, because spammers do not write, and more than 3 posts. Okay. This is for you to decide. Attack spammers are for each site very annoying problem and it must somehow be addressed. Good luck with your fight against spam. ;)

FYI, the threshold for gaining access to the full range of functionality has been adjusted to the above.

What we see is that most spammers don't post more than a couple of posts before moving on, so I think a requirement of 5 posts accomplishes much the same anti-spamming-wise as 10 posts did.

If people start seeing spam in their PM-inboxes after this tweak, make sure to let us know :)

We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause for new members, but hope that the decrease in spam will more than make up for it :)

What if you don't have anything to say? Will have to come up with 10 different things to say now :)

Anyway, glad to be here. RUS is the first AGE game I've bought.

The first 10 are perhaps the most difficult ones; the next 100 or 1000 after that should be a lot easier :D

Welcome to the forums :)

Meeting the prerequisites

Sun Oct 02, 2011 10:28 pm

Five posts that are easy to make that don't require vast experience or knowledge:
1) Thank You, AGEod, for such excellent games!

2) Wow! That sure is a great Wiki you've got there, for your Civil War game! It's very helpful for understanding the game, and I just wanted to let you know.

3) Thanks, everybody, for being so helpful and friendly! These forums are different than anywhere else on the entire WWW, I think!

4) Only five posts and two days, and I get to have full priviledges?! What a small price to pay, for Spam-free conviviality! Whoever is the moderator: Thanks!

5) Dear Anybody: is AGEod ever going to make a game about (insert your favorite obscure conflict here)?
Of course, you'll want to use your own words, rather than mine, but I'm sure you get the idea; after all, I know that you play wargames. That means that you're smart. ;)

( :D ...That last paragraph might even inspire a post or two!)

Is it 5 or 10 posts to get PMs etc enabled? I've been on 3 days and made 5 posts but still got restricted access?

Is there a way to access the link if you are a newcomer? I'm still under the 5 post cap. I'll try again after I exceed 5 posts.

Still not quite clear on whether it's 5 or 10 posts one has to do, but as this makes 11 I should now be over that limit. Does admin check each new user that comes along to find out? If we pass muster do we get an email or are previous restricted areas suddenly thrown open? A necessary job, alas, but doubtless the spammers will falter and fail against such stalwart defences. Keep up the good work, admin, and many thanks for keeping us safe!
