Hi Everyone,

We are just about ready with the next update for English Civil War. Before we release it officially, we would need willing volunteers to give it a go and confirm it works, and nothing is broken.

You can grab the file package from here:
https://1drv.ms/u/s!ArRpOZ0cOAg0cpJvUqa5koL3N4k

PLEASE NOTE: this is not an official Matrix installer. It merely unpacks the files to your installed game directory, so please make sure that you have selected the correct directory when running this file.

Here is the list of changes:
-- Some text Issues fixed.
-- Logbatch consumes a lot of memory issue fixed.
-- Leaders dont recover their stats after forming a group fixed.
-- Patch number does not show up fixed.
-- Issue regarding the construction of troops. Fixed, now you can build in the regions you have loyalty over 51% and if you have the assets needed.
-- Reg Southminster tooltip now shows ‘Clear’.
-- More WS for the Parliamentarian. Some structures generates more WS each turn.

Just to add that old games wont work with the patch properly.

1.02RC installed. Update of version number confirmed.

1) Main.log size NOT fixed. The main.log is still growing at approx 150 meg per turn. A huge number of repeated entries in the log.

In your release notes above you mentioned the log using too much MEMORY. It's too much DISK SPACE, too many writes to disk, that is the problem.

Please don't release 1.02 without solving that main.log problem.

2) confirmed purchase of new units in provinces with at least 51% loyalty.

There is no "general.opt" file in the patch, where the log line in question that PhilThib commented is located.

I do not know whether a patch can edit a file or not.

I suppose you have to edit it manually.

That's actually a different problem. PhilThib's fix was for how many lines are written each time a write is done. That helped a little bit. The major problem is that too many lines overall are being written.

There are numerous debug text strings being written to the log whcih are repetitious, as in

In this line you have 10 or 100?

Code: Select all

// how many log lines should be written at once. Can slow down significatively the app & hosting if below 10.
LogBatch         = 10

Thanks GW, You have explained the issue better than I can....

after a clean install and then the 1.02 beta; only six turns in and my main log is 1.11 GB.

I checked TYW and the main log is 37 KB.

general ops file after patch 1.02 beta was still 10.

I had to manually change the file to 100

// how many log lines should be written at once. Can slow down significatively the app & hosting if below 10.
LogBatch = 100

Mine is set to 100.

Seems like we will have to replace the genera.opt, unfortunately that'll force players to re-enter their serial number after patching. Don't seem like we have much of a choice, though.

What about Montrose's Force in Scotland (Naseby scenario).
Aboyne and Gordons troops details [horses] weren't visible (not clickable)
Fixed?

I'm playing the Naseby scenario as Royalists, all options set to default. There seems to be some strange results for the money and war supplies display in the top left.

Sometimes it seems to add up correctly and display the final amount, other times not. Can somebody else try it and let me know if I mucked something up or have lost the ability to do mental arithmetic due to old age.

Replacing the general.opt WILL NOT fix the large log problem. Seriously, I've said it several times now, the evidence is irrefutable: it is the repeated data text going into the log that is causing the log to grow so big.

Changing the general.opt write from 10 to 100 to 1000 to 10000 will have NO EFFECT on the ultimate size of the main.log. The only way to stop the main.log from growing so big is to stop writing the repeated debug text strings/lines into the log.

To solve the problem you must get your programmer to remove or turn off the repeated writes of those debug lines.

OK, I will stop pestering you about this.

If the problem is within the executable, this was not updated in the patch, so not solved.

I've had a complete run through all 106 turns of the full campaign with no crashes. This was on a low spec XP laptop - 1.6 ghz, 2 gb ram Intel graphics. It ran really well.

I think there is still some funny arithmetic on the money and war supplies calculations - sometimes it seems right other times not. There are still some typos but I presume these are low priority whilst there are other issues to be addressed.

I have changed the General.opt file log batch thing to 250.

What is the error log file others refer to? I tried to find it following the screenshot somebody posted - ie in the ECW folder but couldn't see it.

Go to the logs folder and check the size of this file:

I have an odd condition - I have plenty of money and war supplies to buy units, but I cannot. All show as too expensive. I hold the needed recruiting regions at more than 50% loyalty.

Hi leib and John..

I believe john is talking about our Pbem, I have had a look at the Royalist side and they cant build anything as no region is green even although they have enough funds and WS, funny thing is in the same game on my side (Parliamentarians) I can build and have green regions, so something seems to be wrong on Johns side, anyhow as I am logged in I have posted the save, cheers...

Lieb this is the first time I have attempted to attach a file in the new forum, I cant find the attach option, do I have to be given permission first by the moderators?

Lieb its not a problem anymore, Me and John forgot that you need 51% or more loyalty before you can build units in a region..

Cheers

If you have an account with a file sharing service like Box or Dropbox and upload a file to it, you should be able to post a link to that file without problem.

If it's just a matter of linking to an image, it works in pretty much the same way. Upload your image to a hosting site that you have an account with and post a link to whatever it was you uploaded.
