Thank you.

Johan Helmich Roman - Drottningholmsmusiken (1744) is very good. It can be great when playing Great Northern War scenario.

Could you get the mp3 version of those and send them?

Unfortunately I don't have mp3 version. Music in last post was recommended by Liberty Bell.

Here is a link to a zipped folder in my Box account.

The zipped folder has both pieces of music in it, downloaded from YouTube and converted to MP3's.

CD of Period Music

Tue Aug 01, 2017 3:59 pm

Dear All,

As a newcomer to the forum (but not to Matrix titles), and as someone who's always been interested in this period, I'm looking forward to this! On the subject of music, I recently stumbled on a CD from the Dutch group Camerata Trajectina, "De Vrede van Utrecht (The Peace of Utrecht), 1713: Music from the War of the Spanish Succession." Here's a link to the CD, as well as to the Dutch Song Database, which has translations of the lyrics. I believe that the full CD has a booklet of these as well:

'Peşrev' is performed by Polish musician https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wojciech_Bobowski in 17th century. Very interesting character. There are many versions but with more strong drums could well fit period.

Over the Hills and Far Away (Queen Anne)

I suppose some of you may have already seen this, but thought I would share it!

A question for all: what was marching/battlefield music like in this period? Later 18th-century tunes seem to be pretty well-documented- what about this period? Does anybody know of any recordings?

Best,
Blas

Is this the War of Spanish Succession music topic ? :)

In France, military music got developped under Louis XIV by composers like Lully, Philidor, Couperin or Charpentier. There are a lot of pieces well documented, but not so much are recorded under the Youtube.

La Marche du régiment de Turenne by Lully is still sung in french army. You can find a various versions from elaborate baroque (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VouY1c4sn0I) to pure vocal (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOTcVH4uVWA).
Other pieces from Lully :
Marche des dragons de Noailles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9d6DbWbcqfc
Marche des combattants https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyRevGDMVNU
Marche des mousquetaires https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m_4A5YUY_k
Marche française https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcOkiNLc7qI

I have a special affection to Philidor who created various music pieces for different moments in everyday Louis XIV life.
Marches Fêtes & Chasses pour Louis XIV https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZqFiocnqCM (1h long, the first half is military).
My favorite, Batterie de Timbales which I used for the ouverture of my TYW music mod. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZqFiocnqCM&t=11m28s

Charpentier's Te Deum is now a classic wedding theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7exNrmWXyA

...

Will I find a march by Couperin for you ? No. But I got something else more juicy : a site who propose fife and drums marches from 17-18th century french army. Everything is available in mp3 and there are even partitions ! http://18eme-de-ligne.fr/index.php/pages/musique

I stop my gathering here and wish you a happy listening !
