EAW Ultimate Edition Mod PBEM Game #1 (Closed Enrollment)

Tue Jul 07, 2015 4:11 am

Sign-up post for anyone interested in playing in a PBEM of the EAW Ultimate Edition Mod (see this post for download instructions). As a reminder, this is the first release of the mod, and likely to have some balancing issues in the later game. So this will likely be a 1914 to mid-1915/early-1916 game.

Looking for 5-6 players. If there are 6, it may be some turns before there's anything to do, as ITA/TUR/USA doesn't join immediately.

I will host the games, but prefer not to participate as a player. I will provide some hints and tips as needed.

Players:
Lindi - France
Shri - Germany
HighlandCharge - Austria
Tomtein - Russia
Ebbignford - Britain

Let's start with these, and keep other players in the wings for when other powers join!

I'd have two people willing to play Italy and Ottomans, respectively, should they be required.

If we got one more person willing to play the USA should it come to their entrance, this will be a full house. :) Nice.

There is a long long war of 1914, 1915 and 1916 and maybe even 1917 before the USA player comes in.
Anyway by the time he comes, Russia will be dying, so Russian can take over as USA.

I guess we have the following players ready-
Lindi- French
Highland- Austria
Myself (SHRI) - Russia
Ebbingford - UK
Tomtein and Alabama Joe have also expressed interest mainly in Majors of CP and WE.
OWL's guys- Italy and Ottomans.

So, we have more than a FULL HOUSE here. If Ben can send the .hst, we can start i guess.
Enough players to spill over to the 2nd PBEM also.

Here is the prospective Italy player by the way. I don't know how you want to send the turn files in the future, so I'm putting it out there in case you wanna do it via PM.

Hi Shri, I fired the up mod last night, the warplans are not available through the ledger but if you click the "preparing for war" event in the message box, the the warplans pop up and you can choose one there :-)

P.s I will reply to your PM later when I get back from work, I'm looking forward to discussing strategy's with you....

HC is right, the F3 screen is no longer used, just click on the message in the message panel and you can select the plan from there. I'll make note to remove the F3 screen so it's not confusing for next release. Feel free to modify your orders and resubmit them here if you want, I'll be going to work shortly so it'll be 9-10 hours before I can run the turn anyway.

I guess default is "Schlieffen" and anyway i don't see why i shouldn't play Schlieffen esp. with the 7 day work cycle!. Mind you, the 7 day cycle makes the German advance more feasible and Schlieffen the best plan possible.

Turn 2 uploaded to first post of the thread. Looks like everyone went with historical warplans! Please keep an eye out for messages indicating mandatory attacks, each nation will have certain attacks they must perform in various August turns (Germany/Austria on this turn, France next turn, Russia the turn after that). The messages will tell you how many elements you have to commit to the attack and the circumstances, be sure to do so or you'll get a nasty NM hit!

Also, make note that forts of lvl 2 or higher cannot be assaulted without breaching them first. So Liege in particular needs to be handled carefully. Shri, make sure to send the 2nd Army to Liege this turn (or at least the super heavy artillery and some Munitions trains with a corps or two). Next turn, you can set the stack to Red/Red posture and use the Bombard Forts RGD to assault it, but no more taking it with direct assault on Turn 1. The 1st Army can either go to LIege with the 2nd Army, or you can send it down towards Bastogne and towards Namur from there.

Good luck gents!

Thanks Ben.
CP needs a good amount of luck in 1914, CP starts the war with a 16% deficit in combat power, 50% deficit in VP and a massive 250% in Navy.
In addition, the Blockades and the Austrian crappy decisions post 1/1/1916 mean the CP has between 12-15 months window in 1914-1915 wherein to get a lead or else lose.

The German army marches on and Ludendorff demands the surrender of LIEGE on an urgent basis, if not he will give those doors of Liege a good spanking with his staff stick. :mdr:

Russia, any problems? can one of the other interested ones - Alabama Joe, Owl etc take up the Russian challenge and continue?
After all the first turn all Russian armies were locked, so nothing wrong so far.
