Critical Error with CTD

Executing a turn and had a crash to desktop. Error message window said to submit main log and the game save files to Tech Support, so...

In my experience, most crashes are due to either not running in admin mode or running multiple games without exiting.

I have already opened a ticket but the solution offered was not relevant to the CTD. The only advice offered was to roll back the turn and to disable file compression. Since the latter was never enabled this could not have been a contributing factor.

Rolled back the offending turn and am progressing with the game but there seem to be no prospects of figuring out what happened or how to prevent it from happening again.
