Mantuan War and Edict of Restitution

Has anyone played a game against the AI recently as the Imperials? I've found 2 things that are kind of weird.

1) Imperial troops never seem to return from Mantua. I'm under the impression that the Mantuan war ended in 1631...but 3 years later Imperial troops were still stuck in Pavia. Even weirder, the AI just randomly takes any Imperial troops to Pavia, even garrison troops which just wither away as well. The Troops to Poland event does seem to work though

2) The AI generates a message that the Edict of Restitution cannot be played. Is there some chain of events that I'm missing here? The Edict was very much central to the TYW so any info on how this fires and what it means in practice would be appreciated.

Hi, we have been talking these days about the Mantua war event http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?41432-For-next-TYW-patch&p=369833#post369833.
Regarding the Edict. If it is not played, it can be turned off. Its effects are gain of money and 200VP for the Catholic.

I have played the Imperialists in the GC many times and have never found out how to play the Edict of Restitution. I just see the message stating that it can no longer be played.

Same here.

However, Leibstandarte, the Edict had far more far reaching consequences. It made possible the rise of Wallenstein, created fear amongst the Empire's subject princes (including catholics) and was (officially) the major reason for Denmark and Sweden interventions - ie to reverse its effect. Indeed, peace could only be found after the Emperor renounced to it. So maybe a way of playing it would be to create a decision where some money is obtained for the Imperialists and VPs but with a corresponding drop in relations with at least the Protestant powers.

Re Mantuan War, the issue I have is that in the GC, it never really ends and basically siphons off the whole Imperial Army. Possibly, the 1628-31 duration should be enforced by the game and that only one army is sent there (ex Wallenstein) and not literally the whole of the Imperial forces including the fixed garrisons. After all, in real life, some Imperial forces remained under the command of Tilly and Pappenheim.

BTW while we're making suggestions, can we change Pappenheim's ability to a horseman and elevate Aldringer to a three star general (he actually took over from Tilly at the latter's death)

Thanks for everything!

Good man, Offworlder! I hope we can keep some level of interest in TYW so they will keep working on it. It is a very under-represented period in wargames and TYW has great potential!

I agree with Offworlder's suggestions regarding these two items. Implementing them would certainly improve the game.

Indeed its a very interesting period which is not covered much and the Ageod system together with Leibstandarte's expertise delivered an excellent and fast paced game!
