Try starting a new game. i don't think it's backward compatible. If you are still getting file, get the main.log file and post it to this thread.

EDIT : i meant another game, not just an earlier turn.

Doesn't look like this is backward compatible. I've had issues with prior games.

The last beta patch loaded and the game runs but errors out to the main menu in turn processing, suggesting that indeed it is not save compatible, which makes me a little sad as I really wanted to continue to 100 turns or so at least to see how loyalty-building might affect peace treaty options and mechanics. So I start afresh.

managed to resolve crash to main menu bug by complete re-install of game and installing the newest beta straight over vanilla 1.011.

My save from the previous installtion of the game worked fine.

Also seeing much more realistic combats now - no more 100/0% causalty rates and armies retreating after loosing about 20-30% causalties.

Still seeing the odd entire division wiped out.

Russian wandering troops will get an improvement in next beta patch. We will probably have to make a good pass on the AI in January about these troops going where they should not be, but that's not possible before January, sorry.

As for most of the scripted events and interdiction by AI to wander, it can only work with a new campaign.

When can we look forward to a new patch?

After struggling with the Grande Army and winter attrition in Austria and Bavaria, I think that the winter attrition needs to be toned down quite a bit, for Western Europe. Winter weather wasn't as much of a prohibition to campaigning by this time, as it was in earlier times. Napoleon wasn't adverse to campaigning during the fall and winter, with little adverse affects to his army, with proper planning. Of course, this wasn't the case in Russia...

Small update to the patch, apply it on top of 1.011 official or a previous beta patch. It fixes a potential crash at end of turn.

Thanks to Pocus!

Auchmuty's field army (disguised as a supply train) at Gibraltar heading for Seville is not addled wanderlust but high strategy. Once he drew Spanish forces through the bad weather to maneuver into position to his north and between him and Gibraltar, he marched expeditiously across the river and marshes into "neutral" Portugal and turned north to menace the bucolic marches of the frontier from the safety of sanctuary in Portugal. Precious supplies and replacements will be used to retire troops north to face him and return to their other missions.

I had one address debug message in turn execution, but otherwise the game has behaved well on the 1.02.

Does it affect all Russian units or only Russian navy units?
Do I have to start all over again?

Navy only for now. More to come as reports come in...
Still need to squelch SPA and RUS Armies roaming..... ...any others?

The event will fire at any point in a game, but strange things may occur to Navies that are already "wandering"

There are spanish arti units showinf up in paris and the whole Prussian Army is moving to the rhine, while I defeat the austrians in 1805 as french although they are neutral.
I think that should be adressed. A neutral power not at war should stay inside it's own teritorry. When war is declared it can wander around in neutral territories.
What do you think,

1.02RC 21DEC
------------------

GB GC Aug 1805 is all I've played to date in around 20 plus starts.

I'm beginning to think that the notification in the message log about how many division and armies are allowed is an indication of things going awry (identical to those at the start of game).

In the following turn that it appears it tends to be announced in duplicate and then boom! A crash to the start screen (new, load, resume etc).

Unfortunately even quitting at that point and reloading a previous turn or two cannot remove these log messages, which is a bit of a surprise because when those turns were originally played the messages weren't there.

Sorry can't be more specific as I'm no technician and I've no idea of what's going on under the bonnet but it's just an observation.

On a positive note in my last game, which was the first after the 21 Dec patch this didn't happen until turn 28, which for me is the furthest I've ever got.

Surely gentlemen officers traveling as individuals should not be obstructed in their passage around Europe except through countries of an enemy.

russia is at war with France yes (as georgie nearby) so maybe something coming from that ??

EDIT : June 05, 2 turns later, Austria dow France and Brune has been teleported back to Paris

Perhaps if the game were a tourism simulator. But aimlessly wandering units, officers or not, are hard to justify in a grand strategy/war game. Just the fact that the game has to keep track of them is a waste of AI time.

Regarding Prusian units (not only leaders) wandering around I have to correct myself: I didn't see that Prussia was at war with bavaria meanwhile ;-)
